With no wish at all to malign those who are now mourning the death of Steve Irwin (which is sad but not surprising), I'd rather mark today by noting the sad passing of author
Colin Thiele.
Mr Thiele was best known for his children's novel, Storm Boy. It was one of my favourites as a small child and got me interested in a variety of ecological issues relating to the Coorong. It was also the first book I'd ever read that featured a South Australian landmark.
I also adored the movie and had quite a thing for the young boy who played Storm Boy.
Goodnight Mr Thiele. *salute*
