Painting... again

And not even fun painting like on a canvas either... just painting walls.  I love the color we picked out to cover all our crazy colors.  It is calming and I'm surprised at how much I like it.  It's different from the color we originally painted because we thought we had more but didn't and I couldn't find the swatch.  We got a different color that

I'm glad you're enjoying the painting. I'm still hesitating about which colors I want to paint my walls. At first I thought I'd paint the four of them red but then a friend suggested I paint three walls with a light color like white or beige and the fourth one red. I'm confused now. lol

If you paint anything red, make you sure you prime the wall first and thin the paint. Red has a lot of pigment in it which makes it heavy. If you see it sliding down the walls and leaving only the primer underneath you'll see what I mean. Also, be careful with the tape. You can pull the paint right off the wall if you don't take it off at the right time and end up with no red on the wall and a bunch of red in your hand. It's disgusting. Our walls look great though and they are all red... well, a burnt orange is more like it but red enough. Took 5 coats. My friend is a professional painter and he said he painted a red room for a woman 6 times before she finally told him to stop. There were still spots on the wall where it didn't cover completely. Hard color to paint but it looks great when you're done! I wouldn't paint the walls lighter - go for all red!! It will look awesome! Not sure you will get much sleep but it will look great!!!! lol

By prime you mean paint it white beforehand?

If you are painting a dark color, typically you get a tinted primer. Our primer was tinted and it still took 5 coats.

I just learned a trick last night regarding tape... tape everything off and lightly paint the edges to seal the tape and then go back around with a heavy amount of paint on the brush to trim. Take the tape off right away. That way, you don't get paint seeping under the tape and you wind up with a nice crisp line. I usually clean the brushes and get everything picked up before I pull the tape off but regardless, I always take the tape off when the paint is wet. If you wait until it's tacky with the thicker paints, you could pull the paint off the wall.

It's thick paint but red is transparent so you have to make sure you get enough on there so you can't see through it anymore.

Okay so I didn't understand everything about the primer you're getting a bit too technical for me here (you are an expert at this!).
The primer is the color you paint the wall beneath the red (if you choose to paint it red)?
That means it's best to choose a primer that's not too light like white?
I'm not sure I understand about the tape. I you take it off right away, don't you risk the paint sliding where it shouldn't? I think I'll need to ask my dad about stuff like that.

Yes, the primer is the color beneath the red (if that is what you choose). You want to get a primer that has some of the pigment in it of the paint you are putting on the wall. My friend who is a professional painter says you don't need primer even for a dark color like red unless the wall has never been painted or if you have patches you are fixing but I liked using the primer for the red but that is just me.

If the paint is sliding down the wall, you have bigger problems than the tape. lol If the paint is not sliding down the wall, taking the tape off will not hurt anything. You will get dirty though because the paint on the tape will still be wet! Don't touch anything! lol
