Crazy, stupid puppy

I just wrote about my first love in my other blog so now that I am thoroughly depressed and drained, I think it's time to write about something else so here goes!

Cassie is a black lab mix.  Mixed with what, we don't know.  I say sneaky neighbor dog but that is only my opinion.  Some people say dalmatian.  Some say terrier.   Some don't care.  She is a mutt, pure and simple.  A beautiful black mutt with adorable floppy ears and shinny coat that lopes around like 4 month old puppy.

She is about two years old now and still stupid as ever.  I'm sure some of this stupidity has to do with her owners though.  If we were not as lazy, she would be better trained by now but whatever.  She is still a great dog no matter how you slice it.

When I went to the shelter to pick out a dog, I wanted a small dog.  We have a small house and small yard, thought it would be mean to subject a big dog to that kind of living.  The woman at the shelter explained about little dogs and to that I said, "WHEW!  Because I want that one," and pointed to Cassie.

She was little but not too little.  She just shook in her cage and looked at me with those big brown eyes.  I was in love.  I had to have her.  Her name was Uma when she was in the shelter.  The hell if I was going to be yelling that out my back door though.

I changed her name in the parking lot.

The reason I say she's crazy is because she seems to have a death wish.  Either that or she really is just that stupid.

About 6 weeks after we got her, I had her at my mom's house.  She was not on the leash but she was staying by me and doing very well.  Then the dogs from across the street came out and all hell broke loose.  She took off and the only thing I could scream was "NO!"  There was a truck coming from one direction and a car from other.  Figures.

The car missed her.

The truck did not.

Cassie screamed and cried while she ran back into the garage at my parents house.  Thank God she did not run away.  There was a big gash in her leg but nothing else looked wrong with her.  The guy in the truck came running into the garage very upset.  Turns out, he just put his own dog down the day before.  I felt so bad for him.

My boys heard the commotion and were upset that the dog was hurt but they seemed to be doing alright.  No sense getting everyone worried until we had something to worry about right?  My dad drove us to the vet and miraculousy, she was fine.

Crazy dog escaped certain death!  She got hit by a truck and nothing happened to her!

The guy who hit her was passing by my parent's house, saw my dad outside and stopped.  He wanted to check on the dog.  I give him a lot of credit.  He did not know if she lived or died.  She could have had some internal bleeding or a head injury we did not know about.  He was glad she was okay and I was relieved he did not have to live with the fact that he killed someone else's dog.  Regardless of whether it was an accident or not, he would have still felt bad and I did not want that.

Cassie HATES trucks now.  She will bark like there is no tomorrow at any and all trucks that go by.  She even tries to lunge at them.  Like, "Take that you stupid truck!"  She is hysterical.

She is my crazy, stupid puppy!
