Like I've done several times before, I was performing MMSE on a patient who was admitted for delirium and inappropriate behaviour. It was going well. He was alert and quite orientated to time and place, so the exam was coming to an end and I was about to ask him to write a sentence when he grabbed hold of my wrist and tried to twist it! All of a sudden! with no warning!
I admit it was somewhat scary considering the fact that I had drawn the curtains so nobody saw what was going on (and I'm not the type to scream). But I kept my cool and called for help in, what I hoped was, a calm voice. Thankfully, a few people came to my rescue and got him to let go of my hand. Phew!
What an experience!
