Mad, Bad, and Dangerous to, er, read, drink, and define variables

Shopping is becoming an irrelevence. I wandered into Nottingham City Centre and failed to buy anything - partly because I couldn't find anywhere to buy *from*. Well that's not entirely true - but the only branch of HMV is really small and the only shop I could find that would sell digital cameras is two aisles on the top floor of WH Smith ...

Naturally I ended up in the pub for 6 halves of beer though. And this time I did it properly - started at the weakest and built up to the strongest. So there.

Came back via Hucknall. Saw the grave of Big Ben. The church itself was closed (!) - opening times at non-service times appear to be restricted to two hours on weekday morns, and two on weekday afternoons, and then only if a warden is present ('tis true that Hucknall's a bit of a dogdy place though! Even the buses don't go through it at the very end of daily service!), so I didn't get to see anything much about the church's most famous resident (and his daughter, the world's first computer programmer, save a memorial plaque in the market square.

Today also saw the return of four library books I'd had for over a year, thus having reached the maximum overdue fine of £7.50 each. What's interesting is that, despite the length of time I'd had them, I only managed to read 2½ of them! I managed only the first couple of chapters of a book called 'The Cinderella Moment' because, well, not all chick-lit is good-lit. In fact, let's be honest, it was bloody awful. :D

Yesterday's rain lurked around a bit - we had the weird situation of it drizzling in bright sunshine - but it all seems to have passed now and the forecast is for only a few spots between now and the middle of next week.

weather, books, beer, ashfield, rantings
