Went to the Nottingham Beer Festival today.

was stuck in the queue to get in for an hour ... in the drizzly, misty, rain. The festival was being held in the grounds of Nottingham "Castle" (a word I use advisedly - it's basically a manor house!), which meant they could fit more people in but it kind of meant that more people *could* go - hence the long queue!!

There was one major tent, with several wide aisles of beer, and two smaller tents by the bandstand where they had bands on later in the evening. Arriving at around 5pm meant that half of the beers had already sold out - along with all the wines, ciders, and perrys which was a bit of a bummer.

still, had a few decent drinks, and it was definitely worth going, didn't manage to get hold of a commemorative festival glass tho - this being the first festival i'd ever been to where i didn't get one. meh. Was also the first beer festival I'd been to where I *didn't* spend all my time obessing over the 'beer catalogue'!!

Beers that were sampled included :
Nelson - Master Mate : typical mild, easy to drink, light-tasting.
Hambleton - Falling Leaves : light, easy-drinking, session ale.
White Horse - Flibbertigibbet : Bitter, hoppy, pale.
Oakham - Bishop's Farewell : Citrusy, sharp, light.
Boggart Hole Clough - Pixie Pale : Light, pale, citrus.
Blindmans - Siberia : Dark, smooth, a little indistinct.
Globe - Comet : Light, hoppy, cheese-aroma.

I was never terribly good at making tasting notes; something to do with not having much of a sense of taste. That'll be the chillis ...
