Sandra smiled, thrilled, as she saw the caller ID on her cellphone. That smile translated to her voice as she answered. "Well hello there, sugar. Ain't heard from you in a few days, thought you mighta forgotten me." She chuckled, teasing coloring her tone.
Putting on his best smile, he responded while fishing his keys from his jacket. "And how could I forget someone like you? Are you free?" He approached his car and unlocked the door.
Sheldon laughed while sliding into the car, closing the door. "I'm sure that negotiations are up for consideration. What's the starting bid?" He's going to continue the little play for a bit to keep things interesting. He took his Bluetooth from the coin tray and turned it on, slipping the device in his ear so he could drive.
"When was the last time that you've been downtown?" Now he was immensely curious and he had a place already in mind. It was the same hotel he would stay in when he didn't have his apartment. Truth be told, he never stayed in one place longer than a few weeks before he would move again. The apartment was the only place he's had for more than 3 months and has his mail sent to a post office box with an FPO/AE attached address as the source.
"I know the perfect place. The dress is high casual. Have you heard of the Windom Plaza Hotel?"
His own brow lifts. "You're a classy lady, why not? Tell you what, we'll skip the hotel and go to someplace a little more casual. Where's the one place you would like to go that you hadn't been to?"
Sheldon was nearly shaking his head. "Okay, we'll go to the hotel." It wasn't a matter to impress her as it was a matter to get to know each other a little better. "I'll pick up at five thirty. That's two hours and fifteen minutes from now. I think that's plenty of time."
He needed to go back to his apartment to get ready himself. "Later, we'll catch a nightcap at the bar and talk for a while."
"Great. I'll see you then, darling." He closes the phone and drives to his apartment.
On the dot, two hours and fifteen minutes later, Sheldon arrives at Sandra's house wearing a black sport's coat, slacks and shirt, his appearance is cleaned up with his hair pulled back in a ponytail. He's holding a single red rose and rings the doorbell, waiting patiently.
Sandra answered the door wearing a nice cocktail dress in red. Her hair was pulled up with one curl framing the left of her face. She drew in a sharp breath at the sight of Sheldon. "My."
"Shall we?" He holds out his arm for her to take. The image of her sniffing the rose made her appear much more serene than the stressful times she had faced before. Even though he didn't know about them they shown clearly from the lines on her face from that stress. "I think you'll like it."
He noticed that across the street, a woman was sitting on her front porch and was staring at the couple. Sheldon didn't embarrass easily but being stared at made a deep impression in his memory as he committed her face to memory. Everyone was suspect until proven otherwise in his mind.

He hands her the rose as he takes her hand. "You're gorgeous."
