Cats and people and ugh.

I caught one of my cats today trying to pee on the baby's cot. I just moved it out of the nursery and into our room because it's going to be in there anyway once Xander's born. It's currently got the Airwrap set up in it, the sheets I was trying a fit on and the only warm-ish blanket I have because I wanted to see if it would fit. Once I tested all of this, I just left it there, made up.

She'd scratched at the blanket and was about to pee on a corner of the sheet when I caught her and she immediately bolted from the room. How annoying. We're getting some mosquito netting to try and discourage the cats from getting into the cot (and to protect Xander from mosquitos once they come back, of course). We can keep the cats out of the bedroom entirely - and I'd like to - but Simon insists on them sleeping with us (I for one would get a lot more sleep if I didn't wake up to wet cat noses rubbing on my feet for attention half a dozen times a night). This will probably solve that problem, but just in case I'm going to take said cat to the vet to see if she's got a UTI or something similar, as she's taken to inappropriate urination habits.

Rather unhelpful comments when people find out I have a cat with an inappropriate urination problem (or sometimes people who find out I have a cat at all) include:

- telling me that if I loved Xander, I'd get rid of all of the cats immediately
- insisting that the cats are spiteful and will "murder" Xander
- insisting that the cats will sleep on Xander's face because it smells like milk and will kill him accidentally ("Seriously! It's happened!!" "No, it hasn't.")
- telling me that cats frequently maul babies
- telling me that cats will pee on everything of Xander's to cover up his scent or mark their territory (Okay, this one CAN be true but certainly isn't always.)
- suggesting that if I have cats and a baby, Xander will develop horrible allergies

It really needs to be legal for me to hit people.
