Celebration of Mar's...a pretty big deal back home. Might'a already heard a bit about it; how Mar built a city an' held back monsters a'couple of lifetimes ago.

Well, the man who should grow up to be Mar is on this ship, an' he usually goes by Jak. Unless we get the word otherwise, today's his birthday.

That means...I get to embarrass the hell

[It's going to take a lot of drinking to get through today with his sanity intact.]

Bar in the casino.

[Jak's there so fast you'd think he was waiting outside the door the entire time. Heading over to the bar, he nods at Torn.]

You done embarrassing me over the comms?

[sandpaperbreath]

[Torn smirks, setting the comm down onto the bar. He picks up a new glass and pours some clear liquor into it, about half-way full, then slides it towards the hero.]

The day over yet?

[Jak sits down on a barstool and glares at the ex-KG.]

You're enjoying this.

[He lifts the glass and takes a drink, not particularly caring what it is.]

Well, I'm pretty damned happy y'got yerself born. There a problem with that?

[Jak sets the glass down.]

That's kinda weird.

[And Torn picks up and drinks from his.]

Don't see how.

That's 'cause it's not you.

[Jak sighs.]

I went on a mission for Krew once. Jinx and a couple of guys were going to rescue an artifact in the sewers, they needed an escort.

They blew up a statue of Mar. I was mad at the time, just on principle.

[He grins wryly.]

It's kind of funny.

[sandpaperbreath]

[For a moment, Torn doesn't really know what to say. He's never seen a real statue of Mar what with Praxis doing his damnedest to replace them all with monuments to himself. He's angry and amused at the same time.]

...did it look like you?

[He shrugs.]

Looked like a statue.

[Jak looks almost ashamed for a moment.]

I was so ... angry. About being in Haven, about working for people like Krew. I hated Mar for even building the place.

[This dampens the mood for a moment, but Torn refuses to let the sour feelings and angst crap sink in long enough to ruin his Marmas. He refills Jak's drink.]

's good to be rid of that floatin' eyesore. Brought the crime rate right down once he was outta the picture.

[A slanted smirk. C'mon, kid. This isn't a time to dwell on that shit--it's Jak Appreciation Day.]
