The Year Thus Far - Sundry Miscellany of My Life

Jan 20, 2009 19:32

As promised, a brief update regarding the goings on with residents of the House of Doors:

  • New Year's Eve was, once again, a bit of a bust. Our first NYE together, arbiter_of_cool was feeling rather puny, so we stayed home. Last year, I worked a miserably long day, staying 4 hours past office closing to complete a time-sensitive compliance project. I came home with frazzled nerves and promptly had a melt down, locking myself in the bedroom and falling into fitful sleep well before midnight. This year lacked drama, but gained snot. There were mild aches, too. Since we didn't want to share with our friends (you're welcome), we opted to stay home. I fell asleep at 11:30pm. This year, I vow that our NYE will not-I reapeat not- suck for any reason.

  • Spent much of this month watching people we love in the throes of tragic loss. What a comment it is on the power of love that we willing connect with one another, knowing full well that we hurt at seeing another hurt and can do nothing about it. We're at the mercies of someone else's pains, and yet we choose to love again and again, knowing the cost. What a thing is love.

  • In all the sorrow, love still lives. What a delight to see kerinda again. I thought her lost to us after we Hawkwoodians parted ways, but my random post on a pagan LJ group-the only one of its kind I've made- was spotted by her, bringing her back into the virtual fold. The night at The Londoner after bidding farewell to gwydiontinker (and welcoming peppermintkiss)... what a balm. Dear friends and plentiful libations. Hooray all of that.

  • Friday the 40th is shaping up to be an overwhelmingly momentous event, though not necessarily in a bad way. My birth mother (MM-Michigan Momma) will be here. The family that created me will meet the family that raised me, and the chosen family that helped me grow. Eeeeeeeee! *flails* What a way to enter my 40s. She's staying at the House of Doors, so there's a bit of "Ack! Fix/organize/clean it!" going on, but it's a great excuse to get things checked off my list that have lingered too long for my taste. (And not for the millionth time, I am grateful that arbiter_of_cool is a patient man.)

  • Big thanks go out to cmore for donning his white 10-gallon hat and hopping aboard his trusty steed. Thanks to him, there will soon be new 'puters at House of Doors, including a laptop upon which arbiter_of_cool can once again cheat on me play with his other girlfriend City of Heroes. Made of awesomecakes, that. Need to talk to local digerati *looks askance at meatpie and goblinking1974* about transferring data off old PCs, but that's a minor challenge, all told. Planning to purchase a docking station and external hard drive to put the cherry of hooray on top of the techno-fabulous sundae. (I don't even know what that means....)

  • QAL is turning Japanese Steampunk! We'll be singing folks down the runway at the fashion show portion of the Steampunk Cotillion at Panoptikon on Friday, February 6th. Should be both a hoot and a holler. Check out QALace.com for scoopage. I am greatly looking forward to this fabulous excuse to play dress up. It means I can wear The HatTM again before Christmas. This pleases me to no end. It's a bloody brilliant hat for which I have deep and abiding love. "Hi, I'm Amy and I have a hat problem..." *high fives divalace & blondelace*

  • Speaking of The Lace, new pics are up on the QALace.com slideshow and MySpace. Very funny stuff from 2007. Clay/Vinnie seems to have a 6th sense about who is going to do what stupid, photo-worthy embarrassment when. Hilarity ensues.

  • Enjoyed a wondrous girls night with dancewench and her nieces last weekend. We kept missing "Mamma Mia" in the theatres, so I gave her the DVD for Christmas, with the caveat that she had to watch it with me first. I made s'more fondue (thanks for that wicked idea, kymberlynn!), so we were hopped up on disco and sugar. Amid much boogie-ing, there were sing-alongs, laughing jags, and cathartic moments. Again I say hooray for all of that.

  • Working on some new promo for my Cafe Press shop (visit ScareWear for some goth-inspired fun, if you haven't already). Hopefully I can generate some new traffic and make a little cash on the side. If you like what you see, please post about it in your blog! "And she told two friends, and so on, and so on, and..."

  • Riding out the Hope High of today's inauguration ceremonies. It feels good.

That's about all I can recollect for the moment. You're not far from my thoughts, my various and sundry lovelies, and never far from my heart. Be well, one and all.
