The Yellow Wallpaper Rides Again

I see it is nearly the end of the year, illustrated by thoughtful neighbours who have been setting off fireworks at intermittent points since the sunset. Ben and Missy dog are obviously enjoying the displays...

Having had a busted knee for the festive period has meant my usual activities have not materialised. Having not been able to put weight on my knee has meant I have been virtually housebound, so I wasn't able to arrange for Christmas drinks with various old buddies, or even go for my usual late evening beer at the Railway Inn. This was a habit I formed when returning home after dropping Heather at her flat as it is a pub with a late bar and caters, politely put, the more mature pub drinker. No doubt, my return upon the new year will involve comments such as "stone the crows, where have you been hiding?" or similar sentiments in slightly different terminology.

Christmas Day was pretty much as expected and reminds me of how being at work really helps make the day run better. It was good to see Nan and the festive dinner went well, aside from the collapsed Christmas pudding, so much for Tesco's Finest.

For the second year running, I have been invited to start off the new year by attending a funeral, weirdly by the same person as well. The person in question is my pal Alan, who invited me down to his father's funeral and has invited me to attend the funeral of TV writer Chris Boucher. Circumstances regarding my knee injury and work lead me to decline the offer.

While this might not seem like very exciting or dramatic news, on Wednesday, I found I was able to walk up the stairs again (using both bannisters to even out the weight), which was nice. Friday, I had a second appointment at Orthopaedics, and I was told to start putting weight on my leg again. I am still braced up and using one crutch for support because I don't want to over strain myself. Hopefully, this means I can get back to work soon, but I will see how this weekend goes.
