"Can't Get It Out Of My Head" Electric Light Orchestra
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuvOPSycBl4 Before BNL, before Rush and Pink Floyd and my metal days, before Styx, there was ELO. While the Jackson 5 cartoons, and watching the Partridge Family on Friday nights were my first exposure to 'popular music', this is the one that grabbed and took hold of me.
Around 1973, I used to sweep the outside stairs at the office where my mom worked for a buck, and I distinctly remember hearing this one on the radio and it made me stop what I was doing and listen very intently. True to the song's title, I carried this song and where I was in my head for years.
How was I to know that Jeff Lynne had a particular talent for uh, "borrowing" Beatles riffs in other songs? To this 8 year old boy, it all sounded original and exciting.
