Part 1 -- Part 2

Part 3

Sehun and Luhan were getting along pretty well. They smiled at each other and sometimes talk to each other. Luhan forgets about their little weird “meeting” and how Sehun tried so hard to get Luhan to remember him. Sehun also stopped mentioning about his amnesia, which Luhan denied having, and everything seemed normal.
Everyone was happy but Sehun.

Sehun may be smiling and laughing but it was painful on the inside. When he looked at Luhan, he wasn’t looking at the one he knew so well. The way Luhan talked to Sehun, the way he looked at him, the way they spent time together, it all felt so different.

But Sehun had to bear with it. And he had been bearing it for almost one month.

When the boys went out, Sehun tried to walk next to Luhan and start a conversation with him but the result was just an awkward silence. Same thing when they sit next to each other on the bus or in the subway. When they did even say something, they would end it with an awkward laugh.

Suho could see it. He watched Sehun tried his best to get Luhan’s attention but failed.

As Suho walked into his room one Saturday night, he looked at Sehun, who just got back from the hospital to remove his cast from his hand, sitting on his own bed, and staring into blank space. Suho asked, “You’re still thinking about it, huh?”

“Obviously. I’m not even looking at the Luhan that I knew,” Sehun replied. “It’s been almost one month. And he still had no clue about our past. I can’t even do anything about it now.”

Sehun changed his position and rested his head on his pillow. He closed his eyes, ready to sleep. Suho made no further statements and left Sehun in peace by switching off the lights and go to sleep too.

~~

Sehun invited Luhan for some bubble tea together at their favourite bubble tea shop. Luhan was thinking of invited the rest along but Sehun cut off by saying they’re busy and it was also a good time for the both of them to get to know more about each other.

When the both of them got their drinks and sat down on a table, the awkward silence began. Luhan drank his bubble tea while staring at the ceiling while Sehun played with his fingers under the table, wondering what to say if he was to start a conversation between the both of them.

“How are you?” Sehun started.

“I’m…fine…” Luhan answered, his eyes still fixed on the ceiling.

Sehun nodded. “And do you have any plans over the next few weeks?”

Luhan shook his head, “Not really. But I think Xiu Min wants me to follow him. He said he needed to go somewhere.”

Sehun bit his lip. He thought about spending time with Luhan and he really needed some time alone with him. Sehun asked, “Wanna go shopping? Or at least walk around town? Later?”

Luhan turned to look at Sehun, blinking as his mouth was filled with bubble tea, such that he had such a cute expression on the face. Sehun bit his lip even further.

Luhan contemplated but in the end, he agreed. Sehun smiled in victory.

He missed those days. Sehun recalled the days where he and Luhan will be going around town and shopping or just simply walking around. They both would always look at clothes, even trying out for themselves. When Luhan tried on one of the t-shirts, he would always get Sehun to try too. They would always end up picking clothes for each other, rather than choosing it for themselves. In the end, they will share clothes.

After another few minutes of awkward silence, the both of them were done finishing up their bubble tea and headed out on the streets.

They walked along the crowded streets, filled with people of all ages. There were people standing outside their shops, calling for customers to come, children laughing about, the sound of cars driving pass by and the horns honking. It was a typical weekend, where families or groups of friends hang around.

Luhan stopped by a small food cart, looking at the many food sold by the woman. Luhan clapped like a five year old boy before picking up a small plate filled with a small amount of bulgogi and started chewing. Sehun stood by his side, watching Luhan but made no move to eat some.

Luhan turned his head to look at Sehun. He used the chopsticks and picked up some pieces of meat before holding out towards Sehun. Sehun was surprised at the sudden move.

Luhan urged Sehun to try some. Sehun moved closely and let Luhan feed him. Luhan asked, “Delicious, isn’t it? Want some more? I’ll pay.”

Sehun nodded in agreement without thinking any further. Both of them continued eating a few more plates of bulgogi, complimenting the dish to the woman selling. Luhan paid for their small meal before they continued walking around.

The sun started to set and the streets were getting packed as the minute goes by. Sehun and Luhan walked closely together and Sehun tried his best to avoid getting separated by Luhan.

They passed by a clothing shop; all men clothing. Luhan looked at Sehun, who kept looking at the shop. It was one of the shops that Luhan and Sehun frequently visit. Luhan asked if he wanted to go in and have a look and Sehun, obviously, had to agree. It would be nice to know how it feels like in the past, having to look at clothes with Luhan even if they weren’t buying anything.

“It’s been a while since I’ve bought some clothes,” said Luhan, looking at the jackets before moving on to the t-shirts.

“Me too. I had no one to accompany me around,” Sehun replied.

"Well, since we are here, we could get something.”

Sehun quietly watched Luhan while he was busy looking at all the t-shirts. He felt slightly upset, Luhan still hadn’t remembered about anything and this was one of the few things they would always do together. He has yet to apologise to Luhan for overreacting and causing the accident but Luhan wouldn’t believe it.

Sehun was lost in his thoughts again that he didn’t hear that Luhan was talking to him.

“Do you hear me, Sehun?” Luhan asked. “Sehun? Do you hear what I’m asking you? Sehunnie?”

Sehun snapped back the moment he heard the way Luhan called his name. He thought, It’s been a while since I’ve heard him call me that way.

“Do you hear me?” Luhan repeated.

“What?”

“I was asking what you think of this t-shirt,” Luhan said, holding out a t-shirt in front of Sehun.

“Um,” Sehun had no idea what he should say.

“Come on!” Luhan grabbed onto Sehun’s hand and dragged him to the fitting room. “I think the t-shirt looks good on you. Come on, give it a try.”

Sehun stood still in the fitting room while Luhan waited outside. Sehun looked at the t-shirt in his hands and without any hesitation, he tried on the t-shirt. He wouldn’t want to argue with Luhan; he had always wanted to spend the day with Luhan anyway.

Sehun opened the door of the fitting room and saw Luhan holding a pair of jeans and a denim jacket in his hands.

“Looks good on you. Try these on too!” said Luhan.

Sehun laughed, “What about you? You said it’s been a while since you’ve bought something.”

“If I pick out clothes for you, will you pick out for me?” Luhan asked.

Sehun grinned.

They spent about an hour, trying out different clothes that they picked out for each other and complimenting about how good looking the other was. They finally chose which clothes they wanted to buy before going to the cashier, deciding that they will pay for their own. While Luhan was making his payment, he looked at one of the t-shirts he chose for Sehun.

Luhan started, “You know, I personally liked this t-shirt. But it looks good on you so I have to let you have it.”

“Are you sure?” Sehun asked. “If you want, you can have it.”

“No. You keep it. But if you feel so bad about it, I think we could share, you know.”

Sehun didn’t answer. What Luhan had just said, it was exactly the same thing he said when they both went out shopping together for the very first time. Luhan liked what Sehun will be keeping but in the end, he suggested about sharing.

After paying for the stuff, they both exited the shop and continued walking around the streets. It was still pretty packed and the night was still young. The both of them continued to look around, looking at shoes, accessories and even walked into CD shops.

Sehun enjoyed his time. He was very quiet the whole time, listening to Luhan and it reminded him so much of the times they had with each other in the past. But he longed for Luhan to remember them. It feels empty without the Luhan he wanted to be with. In other ways, he still felt good about it. It was like he was reliving those memories.

The both of them gotten much closer that night.

And that really surprised the other friends since most of them had seen how awkward it had been when Sehun tried to talk with Luhan ever since the accident. Everyone knew Sehun was trying to get closer to Luhan and no one got in the way of it. The atmosphere was lively and it felt like the same again, without one person (that is Sehun), feeling so left out.

Luhan and Sehun spent more time with each other; they both hung out a lot more often. And ever since then, Sehun had forgotten about his worries and his desperate feeling to get Luhan to remember him.

Another Saturday evening, they both went out together again.

“So what’s the plan?” Sehun asked.

“No idea,” Luhan rubbed the back of his head.

Sehun laughed, “We’ll just…walk around, I guess.”

The both of them walked aimlessly around town, no idea where they were heading. They just passed by stores, crossed the roads, listening to sounds of a busy street.

Luhan was busy talking about what Xiu Min did over at their apartment the previous night. Luhan kept on talking until they reached the traffic light, waiting for the green lights for pedestrians to cross. Sehun suddenly stopped listening to Luhan who was still talking. Sehun looked at the surroundings of the streets; it was far too familiar.

That was the place where Luhan had the accident. The place where Sehun did not pay attention to a speeding van heading towards him. The place where Luhan pushed him off the road. The place where his head got hit really hard, causing his memory loss of Sehun.

Sehun felt like tearing up. He had not really thought much about the accident over the past few days.

"Sehunnie, were you listening to what I said?” Luhan asked.

Sehun turned his head in surprised and looked away from Luhan, trying not to meet his eyes. He was already crying, and afraid to feel the way he had at the hospital when he found out about Luhan’s memory loss.

“Your eyes are red and wet,” said Luhan.

“It’s nothing. Something went into my eye. It hurts a bit but I’m fine,” Sehun lied and Luhan bought it at first.

They both crossed the road and Sehun watched where he was going, afraid of a speeding vehicle again. He looked like he was in an uneasy situation and Luhan couldn’t help but ask if he was okay. Sehun kept saying he was and Luhan did not believe it already. Sehun was suddenly not being his calm, usual self.

“Are you really okay?” Luhan asked again.

“I’m fine, hyung. Really,” Sehun replied.

“You know, you can tell me what the matter is, right? I’ll understand.”

“Would you?”

Luhan frowned. He kept on asking Sehun to tell what was making him look a little unsettled and uncomfortable and Sehun finally cave in to tell him, hoping that Luhan would really understand.

“You know, we were just crossing that road, right?” Sehun began. Luhan nodded but made no comment as they walked. “You see, that was the place where you hit by a van. The time you woke up in the hospital. And that was the place where I also was at the time of the accident.”

Sehun paused, unsure if he should continue. Luhan was already making a face. Luhan told him, “Go on.”

Sehun continued, “I was mad at you, because you seemed to be avoiding me the few days before the accident. I wanted to spend some time with you but you seemed to be doing something else. You weren’t returning my calls. I was angry and frustrated, that day we were all playing basketball. I left you guys, and I didn’t even bother to turn around when you were calling me.

“I ignored the world by listening to music so loud, trying to think about it myself. I didn’t hear you calling out my name while walking on the streets. I crossed the road and I didn’t notice a van heading towards me. But you did. You ran across the road and pushed me out of the way, and you were hit by the van instead. Your head hit on the road too, probably the cause of your memory loss.”

Luhan stopped in the middle of the walking pavement, glaring at Sehun. “You’re not talking about that crap again, are you?”

“I already said it.”

“I told you already. I am not suffering from amnesia.”

“I am your friend before the accident and you couldn’t even remember me.”

Luhan began walking away; he already wanted to head back home. Sehun chased after him.

Sehun continued, “Then, if I wasn’t your friend back then, explain why those polaroids at the wall beside your bed. Polaroids of me and you and the others. The things in that box that I gave you. You think those stuff as junk but you never did.”

“Why are you being so stubborn, Sehun? I already said I can remember everything but you think I don’t.”

“No, you’re the one being stubborn. You’re not even making an effort to remember our past.”

“That past never even existed.”

“You don’t know what you’re saying, hyung.”

“Don’t call me hyung! From now on, we are just strangers. The same way since the first time I met you. When I don’t even recognize you at all.”

“Please don’t be like this.”

The both of them came across another traffic light and had to wait for the green lights for pedestrians. Luhan was ignoring Sehun who was standing beside him.

“Please. We are friends,” begged Sehun. “I wanted to tell you I’m sorry but I couldn’t because you wouldn’t even know the reason why. Please, Luhan. Please. Make the effort to at least remember me. The one you forgot ever since the accident.”

Luhan glared at Sehun again. “Fine. You want me to remember so much. I’ll do it for you then.”

Luhan looked at his left and right sides. Sehun wondered what he meant and seeing Luhan like he was ready to do something. Something really dangerous.

“No, you’re not…” Sehun couldn’t continue.

“That’s how people recall in movies, don’t they? Doing the same thing all over again,” replied Luhan.

“Don’t!” Sehun grabbed onto Luhan’s hands but Luhan let go off him.

Luhan moved his feet and began to dash across the road, filled with cars zooming pass by.

“HYUNG!” Sehun called. He didn’t even think about anything and just ran across the road.

It all happened so fast. Luhan ran directly in front of car but Sehun pushed him off the road. It was like the same thing that happened in the previous accident. Only, it was much worse.

Sehun was hit by the car and was thrown off in the air, a few feet from the car. The tyres of the car screeched and the sound of more cars colliding against each other. People gasped and screamed in horror at the sight of the accident.

Luhan landed on the side of the road, he was okay but he had a bad scratch on his hand. He shook his head and many images came across his mind. These were his memories; memories of him and Sehun together. From the time they first met, to the times they hung out, their birthdays together and to the day Sehun walked away from Luhan angrily.

Luhan’s eyes widened. Memories of him and Sehun, he was shocked. He remembered it all, even the accident where he pushed Sehun away.

“Someone get help!” someone yelled.

Luhan stood up and turned. He saw the chaos, about five cars bumped into each other but they weren’t serious damages. The driver of the first car on the front ran out of the car and gasped. Luhan moved his eyes, looking at what the driver was surprised at and Luhan saw a lifeless body lying on the road. He screamed, “SEHUN!”

He ran, pushing people out of the way who were gathering around. Luhan could see Sehun, lying in his pool of blood. Blood was flowing out of Sehun’s nose and mouth and his eyes were closed. He did not look like he was breathing. Luhan covered his mouth, his eyes red and tears falling down on his face.

“Sehun!” he cried again.

Luhan bent down next to Sehun, ignoring the blood that was beginning to stain his clothes. He continued crying and calling for Sehun.

“I’m sorry! He was suddenly in front of me. I had no time to stop!” the driver apologised but Luhan was not listening.

“Sehunnie! Wake up!” Luhan called. “Sehunnie, I remembered everything. Do you hear me? Please wake up! SEHUNNIE!”

But Sehun did not move.

“I REMEMBER EVERYTHING! PLEASE KNOW THAT. PLEASE DON’T GO! SEHUN!”

~~

Luhan put his head in his hands, sitting outside the emergency room of the hospital. Sehun was rushed inside and Luhan couldn’t go in. Luhan had his head down, praying as hard as he cried, hoping nothing will go wrong.

He would not stop crying.

Luhan didn’t even pick up his phone; Xiu Min and Kris repeatedly called for him. He didn’t want to talk to anyone, he just cried, waiting for the doctors to come out with good news. Luhan felt like he was going crazy.

He recalled his moments with Sehun, all from the very beginning to the day of the time he woke up in the hospital. Luhan cursed at himself, how could he have forgotten about Sehun? But if it hadn’t been him, Sehun would have been the one gotten into an accident that day. But it made no difference. He was hit by a car early that evening.

The doctor walked out and stood beside Luhan. He placed his hand on Luhan’s shoulder and Luhan looked up, his face all red and wet. Luhan immediately stood up, asking the doctor how Sehun was.

The doctor opened his mouth. Those words echoed in Luhan’s ears and the whole world was collapsing all over him. Tears rolled down again on his cheeks and he was begging the doctor to tell the truth.

“I’m sorry,” the doctor apologised, before tapping on Luhan’s shoulder and headed back into the room.

Luhan crouched on the floor, putting his head in his hands again and he wailed so loud. He cried and cried, ignoring the people walking pass by and looking down at him.

He cried, “SEHUNNIE!”

~~

It had been five days. Luhan spent all week, sitting in his room, his feet wrapped in his arms and staring into blank space. He only got off from his bed just to eat one piece of bread a day (or he probably won’t) and go for a toilet break. Other than that, he did nothing.

He got awfully skinny and looked sick that Kris and Xiu Min were both awfully worried for him, as they lived in the same apartment. Kris prepared some food for Luhan. He and Xiu Min went into his room and sat on Luhan’s bed. Luhan didn’t kick them off his bed like he usually would.

“Here’s some food,” said Kris.

Luhan shook his head.

“You need to eat something. And you should go out too. It’s unhealthy staying inside all week,” added Xiu Min.

“I don’t want to,” mumbled Luhan.

“Just eat something.”

Luhan shook his head again. Kris and Xiu Min exchanged glances and they had no idea exactly what to do.

Luhan began sobbing suddenly and he mumbled, “It’s my entire fault.”

Kris and Xiu Min remained silent. They, too, were upset about what happened to Sehun but Luhan had it more badly, having to be the first one out of them all to know what happened.

“I couldn’t even tell him I was sorry,” said Luhan.

“Luhan,” Xiu Min softly called, placing his hands on Luhan’s shoulders.

“You can’t spend the rest of your life in regret. I know Sehun would want you to be happy. The both of you are like brothers. He saved your life,” Kris said.

“But he is gone,” whispered Luhan.

The three of them remained silent for another few minutes.

** "Do you know why I avoided him, a few days before my accident?" asked Luhan. No one answered so he goes on. "It was our anniversary. As in...since we first met each other. I wanted to surprise him but I didn't know...it would end up this way."

Xiu Min sighed, “Will you at least eat something? For Sehun?”

Luhan contemplated. He looked at the plate Kris was still holding and he was tempted to eat. His stomach was growling, loud enough for both Kris and Xiu Min to hear. He cave in before taking the plate and eat, finishing up everything on the plate. Kris and Xiu Min smiled in victory, for a while, knowing they finally got Luhan to eat something.

The three of them sat together for one hour, listening to Luhan talking about Sehun, even when Kris tried to stop Luhan from doing so, he wouldn’t. Xiu Min cried too, as he quietly listened to Luhan.

When Luhan was finally done talking, Kris and Xiu Min moved in closer and gave Luhan a hug. They knew he needed some comfort. He missed Sehun so badly.

“It’s getting late already. You do need to get some sleep. You look really exhausted,” Kris told Luhan. Luhan sighed.

Xiu Min told him, “You know, there is this lullaby that my mum always sings to me when I’m sad. It really helps to drive away sadness and clears my mind and we dream peacefully when we sleep. I could sing to you, if you want.”

Luhan was lost in his thoughts when finally said, “Maybe…maybe I do need some rest.”

Kris got off Luhan’s bed and moved to sit on the floor. Luhan moved into a resting position on his bed and rested his head on his pillow. Xiu Min cleared his throat and began singing his lullaby.

Xiu Min’s singing was like a whisper, words of comfort were the lyrics of the lullaby. His voice was beautiful and Luhan was beginning to feel sleepy, as he was slowly lulled to sleep. Luhan closed his eyes, and Xiu Min continued with his song.

Once Xiu Min finished, he and Kris looked at Luhan, sleeping peacefully. Tears were rolling down on his cheeks, yet, he was smiling.

Luhan mumbled in his sleep, “Sehunnie…”

Kris and Xiu Min exchanged looks. Luhan was dreaming of Sehun.

Anyway, hope you guys enjoyed the story so far (or not. Psh). I'll try writing more in the future but as of now, I have to focus on my exams so I won't be able to come up with much.
