Okay, well, it seems like some people want a travel journal (Jenni!) so I think I will do one. (Jenni, I want more of Japan! All I remember is Jack being chased by deer.) I was trying to figure out what I could post in the meantime that wouldn't end up spoiling the travel journal while still answering some of the questions that popped up in the

On the passport thing, man...that royally stinks. :( I hope it didn't cause you to not enjoy your trip. When I found out about the Google thing (luckily, after Japan and while I was at Taiwan), it ruined almost 3 days of my time at Taiwan (I was being a major bummer). And I got pulled down by a petty bickering scenario.
I tend to try be positive despite what hurdles come my way, but that one was really tough to shrug off. So you never got your passport back in the end? Although after all your work to get a new one, that would not be cheery either. Did it hurt your travel itinerary?

---Anyways, wow, Jiuzhaigou's lakes look nice! Was the water clean enough to drink from or swim? Would they let you play with the water?! ♨
Or ☣, if they really dump chemicals in~♪
As for the food, EVA air has good food. I'm not sure if they have flights going to China though.
And yes yes bakeries! <3♥<3♥ I have pictures of bakeries too I need to share!!! ♡♥♡♥♡
I would have to say that my favorite Chinese breakfast is to drink 豆浆 and eat 油条. Or 粥 with 油条. Or with 點心 with everything else mentioned before~ Hee~ A Singapore pop singer released a song about that combo too. And someone was angry enough about it to blog about it.
Also, I think I'm giving in and buying a flickr pro account. :( Not so inclined, but it seems to have the best comprehensive set of features of all the photo-sharing sites. That was what was keeping me from getting to my Japan/Taiwan pics--well, hunting for better jobs, networking, and figuring out how to present my stuff. And uploading all my videos too so long--not even done yet. T_T

Regarding the passport, I have to admit I got lucky and lost it at exactly the perfect time (if there is a perfect time to get royally screwed, that is ...). It was the last day of our tour, we were back in a major city with a US Consulate, and I still had a week left before I needed to fly back to the US. If I had lost it in the middle of the tour, in some remote Tibetan village, or a day before the return US flight, that would have been completely horrible. But it did completely ruin one day and a half of my trip - it's a very sickening feeling knowing that you're stranded in a foreign country with no money and no identification. The rest of the trip wasn't too bad - I loosened up once I managed to get the new passport and received assurance that my visa would be ready in time for the return flight, but I still kept kicking myself whenever I thought back to it, which was, well, every half hour or so. ;)
ROFL at GAY YAKS.
No, we weren't allowed to play in Jiuzhaigou. That said, there were quite a few places that had no railings along the viewing platforms, so if you really wanted a swim, you could probably have arranged to "fall" into the water. Not sure if it's the greatest idea, since there's about 600 people standing nearby that would love the opportunity to laugh at the stupid laowei, and I remember a pretty decent security presense that probably wouldn't take happily to you dirtying their national treasure. I did ask our tour guide if the water could be drank from, since it looked so clean. I think he said that it was clean, since it came straight from the mountaintop, but there was bacteria in the air that would probably make you sick. (YAY China pollution!)
I've heard good things about EVA air! I wanted to try it, but it's a Taiwan airline and they don't have direct flights between Taiwan and China. The thought of going ORD-SFO-TPE-HKG-PVG wasn't THAT appealing. Maybe if I'm just going to Taiwan next time.
Yay for Chinese bakeries! Share your pictures!
I love 豆浆 and 油条. I get that every week in Chicago. Scarily enough, I went halfway around the world and the best 豆浆 I found was right here in Chicago. Cheapasses in China burned the 豆浆. Assholes!
I just looked into the flickr pro account option as well. I might end up needing to do that as well. I have a LOT of photos.
