What a season. The major project I was working on for a friend is wrapping up after months of work. It was my first time working with this group and they seem to call this time 'decompression' and it's pretty true; all the pent up, overly charged project air leaves you in huge rushes and then you're breathing fresh new air again...and it's delicious.
At the last event, the capture lead said something like, "Just watch, you'll forget how stressful this all was in no time and end up saying 'yes' next time, too." I laughed and said "Doubt it!" :) I hope she knows it was about forgetting how stressful being the art director was, not a world-encompassing 'hell no' to working on future projects.
The other project was Curt's workshop series. More on that in a minute.
For lots of reasons, I've moved to part-time at my day job. Now that the project is over I'm using the extra time to delve back into books and hone my skills - my next step is to get my RMT (Registered Medical Transcriptionist) Certification to make me more marketable to (and skilled for) online medical transcription companies. The plan is to be working remotely by the end of our current lease next fall.
Because the next step is internships in North Carolina for starting an intentional community and I need reliable, moveable income set up.
It is good to feel more back on track with my own life. Curt and I had an good conversation the other day about the soul importance of working for yourself instead of for others. He works for the benefit of his work's owners profits, I work for the benefit of the same and also, I feel, to a degree for sick people who need care taken. Then with this project we've been working for the needs of our friend. All of the above to the exclusion of our own lives, our unpacked apartment we moved into over two months ago, sleep on both our parts. These are all choices we entered into willingly, but it's for others. It is nice to have the time back to further our own desires, to work toward our own ends and the things we care about accomplishing in our own hearts.
Curt's interactive performance workshop/jam series was great. I learned a lot and marvelled at Curt's knowledge set I'd never seen. Met lots of new people, witnessed noticeable changes take place in people I already knew, might be taking puppeteering lessons soon, and it was all fairly amazing to see. One particularly wonderful contact we made from that adventure was Tisse, who has in a small way stolen my heart, much like Dawn did when I started seeing and knowing her. I can see myself incorporating Tisse into my personal life, too, and that's exciting for me. This winter season I think will be quite nice what with the art group Stevie is starting, the sketch meetings we want to go to with Tisse, our new fireplace, hot apple cider :) and other personal connections we've made this summer and fall. All we need now is the nice weather back and...furniture.
