Interesting day.
So I've basically been preparing for band elections for two weeks now. In any other group it wouldn't be that big a deal (I think choir elections basically went like 'Hey, who wants to be president?' 'Yeah, whatever, I'll do it I guess.' 'Ok, cool.'), but band is so tight that it's scary. The Board is the ruling class, and if you ever want to be truely In, that's the only way to do it.
So at first I wanted to be secretay. You know, take notes etc. But then I realized, hey, I'm a Psychology major, I want to go into marketing research and stuff, why not go for Publicity? So I prepared this insane speech, even made a little poem, basically poured my guts into this thing.
Except for a small problem: When I got there tonight and cancelled my name off of the list for secretary, the one other girl who I was running against (my quasi-friend, actually) decided to drop out of the running too.
So what could I do but sign back up again? I mean, we needed a secretary. So then some total a-hole nominates this girl again, who by this time is uber pissed as well and goes "okay, whatever."
She gives a speech. Basically "Hi, my name is (___), I can write." Very literally. I get up there, "Hi, my name is Lauren, I don't want to be secretary, I want to be publicity manager. Don't vote for me."
I lost. (duh) So then a problem arrises--I can't make another speech for publicity. So I "run" for that, and of course, lose. At which point my entire heart basically breaks, since I've been wanting that forever. So one of my freiends nominates me for Librarian, which is basically the person (peon) who copies music and organizes all that paper crap.
There are two other guys running against me (the most competition so far). They are both insanely qualified/have been planning to run for this office for weeks. I really don't want this position, but hey, anything on The Board is good at this point.
The votes are in. It's a tie between me and this other guy (extremely dedicated, wants the job badly, gets to band an hour early every practice just to set up/practice/help out). It's a run-off vote. Guess who wins?
I appointed him my assistant (because, hey, that's techincally my right in the Band Constitution--hey, I told you, band takes this whole thing very seriously, no joke).
Oh, and David got president. Which is like, this huge uber honor.
Lord, band makes me tired.
