Awkward visit

Dec 21, 2009 20:34

It's been snowing off and on in the past week, making the sidewalks a treacherous mix of disgusting brown slush and slick ice. Due to working in his alternate's world, The Shadow's missed most of the bad weather, but he's taking the day to catch up on things in his own city. After last night's fight with Khan's men, followed by packing up the Sanctum there, he's wheezing and aching too badly to engage in further spywork. Never one to simply sit around while he's recovering, he is instead making use of his time contacting agents. The impending holiday doesn't seem to have impacted his mind or his habits. With Christmas fast approaching, his mind is on criminals who target homes for robbery while the residents are away for an extended time. One can only hope his agents aren't calling him Scrooge behind his back.

He has sent a text message ahead, but decided to visit Myra in person, and take the conventional route of walking instead of traveling by PINpoint. This is revealed when, on the front steps to the building the man who dodges bullets with skill and takes out criminals with his bare hands slips on the ice and goes down hard. He's lucky his bones are coated with enamel, or he'd be looking at something broken. A young man with green hair and a nose ring sees the incident through the lobby door and rushes to aid him, then insists on at least helping him up to his 'niece's' apartment. The knock on the door is from the young man, who keeps hold of The Shadow's arm and looks concerned. The grouchy old man has insisted he's fine and objected to any thoughts of calling an ambulance, but he also knows he must play the part of his age. The look he gives Myra when she opens the door is almost comical in aggravated desperation. He's looking to his agent to rescue him from the overly helpful young man.
