I just remembered! THE DAY OF SHRIMP FORKS IS WEDNESDAY!! How could that have slipped my mind!?
So, in honour of the event, I shall post the information, so you may truly understand, and celebrate on Wednesday, August 13, The Day Of Shrimp Forks.
The Day of Shrimp Forks
The Day of Shrimp Forks was created by a number of people who realized just how under appreciated and neglected shrimp forks really are. They are often pushed aside and left to gather dust. These magnificent creatures are frequently rejected in favour of their larger siblings. The group of people decided that it is time to end this cruelty and show the shrimp forks the honour and recognition that they deserve.
This holiday is not exclusive to a select group; everyone in every country that knows of shrimp forks is to be a part of these festivities. Also, anyone who uses a fork of any sort with which to eat should participate in this great day. August thirteenth, the official Day of Shrimp Forks, will be recognized as an international day of celebration. It will be a statuary holiday along with Christmas and New Year's Day.
There are many different methods used to celebrate on this joyous day. One is to decorate with banners, pictures, cardboard decorations, ornaments, and everything else imaginable. Decorations are placed everywhere. People send one another greeting cards. Also, in each and every household there is a six foot tall shrimp fork on display for all to see; it is there as a reminder to all why this holiday exists, and what it is truly about.
There are many games that are played. To name a few, there are Pin the Shrimp on the Fork, Bobbing for Shrimp Forks, and the Great Shrimp Fight. In Pin the Shrimp on the Fork, there is a large picture of a shrimp fork taped to one wall and each player has a paper shrimp with tape on the back. The players are blindfolded, spun in a circle thirteen times, and then released to make their way toward the picture of the shrimp fork. Upon reaching the picture, they are to place their paper shrimp on the fork, hopefully on the tines of the fork.
When Bobbing for Shrimp Forks is played, large corks are placed upon the tines of each fork so that participants of the game will not be stabbed in the face when they bob.
The Great Shrimp Fight is an event that takes place on August 13 at 1:00 PM in the middle of every participating city's main street. The street is closed off to all but pedestrians, of course, and every one gathers by 12:45. At one o'clock, the Fight begins. Everyone begins to throw shrimp at one another, the shrimp being provided by local grocers. Everybody throws shrimp at each other until there is no more shrimp to throw. Fun is always had by everyone who attends.
A very important tradition on the Day is that everyone who owns shrimp forks removes them from storage and pays homage to them by polishing them. This is the most honoured activity of all.
The Day of Shrimp Forks shall hopefully continue to be celebrated for years to come, and August 13 will become a date as widely recognized Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
