Something's Gotta Give

Since January, I've been incredibly busy with work. I teach 22 hours and 8 subjects (US History on Tue/Thu, European History on Tue, English Literature on whenever it seems to end up being held, SAT Critical Reading on Tue/Sat, SAT Writing on Tue/Sat, PSAT Book Club on Thu, and whatever may be the needs of two private tutoring students on Wed/Thu/Sun) up and down SoCal from Calabasas to Cerritos. (Might as well throw in a few other appointments here and there in OC while I'm at it.)

I've been so busy that:

1. For the past week or more, I have been a) unable to launder my bedding, b) sleeping on a bed stripped of sheets, duvet cover, and pillowcases, c) needing to launder my pillows, comforter, and mattress pad since I have been sleeping on them directly, d) unable to find the time to run to Trader Joe's to purchase laundry detergent that was swiped from the laundry room by someone, and e) unable to find time to get quarters to do laundry.

2. Since I have been unable to do laundry, I've resorted to wearing sports bras and, now that I've run out of sports bras, bikini tops. I've resorted to wearing old socks, keeping fingers crossed that I don't catch athlete's foot.

3. I have been unable to cook and hence threw out about $100 worth of groceries that rotted in my refrigerator.

4. I have gone out only three times since the start of the year.

5. I forgot to call my mother on her birthday. This was the first time ever that I've forgotten my mother's birthday. And when she called a few days later, I didn't even realize I had forgotten. In fact, even after she mentioned it, I couldn't even remember on which day her birth date might have fallen since I now only know days of the week rather than actual date of the day.

6. I threw out my back three times, resulting in three visits to the masseuse in two weeks and class cancellations.

7. I developed a very unhappy tummy.

8. Going to Intelligentsia to prep for classes feels as exciting as a night of clubbing.

9. I sold my ticket to Langerado music festival despite the fact that I've wanted to see many of the bands for quite some time.

10. I now know more about what's going on in my students' lives than in my mother's, father's, sister's, and close friends' lives. I keep in touch with my students more than I do with my friends.

11. I have big hair because I haven't had time to go see my stylist in Costa Mesa.

12. I am lucky if I manage to limit dirty dishes to the sink itself. I have unlucky more than lucky.

13. I could go on but then it'd be too ludicrous. No one, other than BA who sees firsthand how busy I am and my mother, seems to fully understand how busy I have been. My mom is so sweet. She called today and sweetly joked that she should come out to LA to take care of me - to make sure I ate decently and had clean clothes to wear. Yes, indeed, I could use a bit of mothering. Yup. I want my mommy. Unfortunately, she's off to Korea this Thursday for an entire month. Sniff. I get so terrified when she gets on a plane...

Something's got to give. Things can't go on like this.

self-awareness, wellness, centering
