So, today I was dragged out of bed at the asscrack of dawn to head to court for the hit-and-run trial of the kid who destroyed Car #1 back in September. All I can say is that his lawyer must have been as high as he was at the time of the accident to recommend that he plead not guilty despite, well, admitting that he'd hit the cars, drove away, and filed a false police report. I'm not exactly sure what he was pleading not guilty to, exactly (it sounded like he was trying to blame the crash on ADD and his antidepressant, wtf?), but daaaaaamn the judge was pissed. I got to give a victim impact statement, but the judge really delivered a damning condemnation. He got sentenced to 30 days jail time (to be served on weekends) for wasting the court's time, which is pretty strict for a first offense... but if he'd just plead guilty and apologized, he would have been let go with a small fine! Well, now I can look forward to going to court for the other dipshit who destroyed Car #2.
The problem with getting up early is that it totally destroys my sleep schedule. I've got to head to band practice in 15 minutes and I'm still feeling horribly groggy. Blaaarrggh. I have stuff to do! Hopefully, our temp conductor will let us out a bit early~
On the bright side, I've managed to spare a bit of free time for sewing over the past few days. I assumed that boots would be really hard to make from almost-scratch, but so far, it's been pretty easy! Except for the difficulty in finding 22 inch metal zippers... I might be able to swing having two costumes for AZ at this rate (currently planning on Mitsunari from Saihai no Yukue and senator-version Keith from Toward the Terra, because I love asshole politicians).
