Romance fiascos and Call of Duty

Or...How I learned not to pick up guys (again) on the internet (again).

So, I'm a pretty hardcore CoD player. And recently I've been playing it up with this group of guys on the multiplayer online stuffs. It's been okay, I am very selective about who I play with and when the guys get skeevy, I block them or find some way to remove them. Occasionally a chill guy will get too friendly but I can find a way to play it off.

Then I met this nice chill Canadian d00d and he asked for my picture because he wanted to put a face to my voice. We get into our little verbal flirtations so I was pretty comfortable to send it to him. He sent me his back and asked me what I think. Still trying to keep things friendly, I just sent a smiley with no winks? So he sent me his number and told me to text him if I want.

Well, later that week and 1.5 bottles of wine later, I went for it. We exchanged some harmless texts, I just was curious about him and that was that. Until in the middle of the night, I get a text from him saying, "this is his wife, why do you want to know?"

I mean, the questions I asked were completely harmless, I think I even asked what the weather was like in Canada or something. So she starts texting me and really just pounding it in how horrible I was to be texting a married man with kids (I did not know). So I texted her back apologizing, letting her know I didn't know he was married, etc. She accepted it and said something along the lines of, he's a liar and a cheater and she's thinking of divorcing him.

I guess not realizing what a tool he was, he sent me a text! Seriously, after your wife went apeshit on me, you decide to text me?! I ignored him but sent him a message via Playstation Network telling him that his wife asked that I not text him any more and I'm respected that. I ended up blocking the numbers and she even called me.

So I stopped playing CoD for a month and avoided being on Playstation Network until it all blew over which it did. We don't play anymore and I don't play with those guys as much as I used to, what a shame.

Now an 18 year old kid is telling me how beautiful my voice is. He finds it soothing. The other guys joke he's my boyfriend. I could have baby-sat him and after pointing this out to him he said he would have loved that. Talk about awkward (I told him that, too). I just want to play with these guys because they are good, can't they see I'm not interested in a long distance...whatever.

[Despite all the frustration, the attention is gratifying.]
