OK, so classes started this week and here is the rundown.
1) First up on the docket is Feature Writing. This class seems like it might be right up my alley. I really enjoy writing creatively and I love writing stories that matter and I think this will give me the opportunity to accomplish that. HOWEVER, I am pretty sure I hate my classmates. My peers are a bunch of sorority girls and older students. One girl, in her brief description of herself, said she is currently trying to start an old-fashioned pin-up group, available for hire for promotional gigs. She said "Yeah, I'm just about trying to find more ways to empower women." ....Right.
2) Next was my THREE hour long JPRO class I have to take to graduate. It's based on the American Gothic, which is great because it'll be interesting literature (one would hope), but it's also going to be a challenge for me. Not only because I will be reading a novel a week for the entirety of the semester, but I must endure my professor's reaaaaaally annoying cough/throat-clearing constantly. And this is not just me nit-picking. It's seriously difficult for me to endure.
3) RPA. Ohhhhhhh RPA. This class is supposed to be the most difficult class journalism majors have to take. And I can see why. Not only do we have to attend out of class field trips to the city council meetings, school district meetings, and superior court hearings (all of which are usually in the evenings), but I also have to turn in a story based on the council meeting by 10 a.m. the followin day! WTF. I am not a professional journalist yet because I am still in SCHOOL.
4)Renaissance drama is going to be one of my favorite classes because I have it with Professor Kiefer, my Shakespeare professor from last semester who is retiring after this semester. I love this old man. I love him.
5) Romantic literature is also a three hour class, but the material is far more dense and poetic and difficult to get through. This class also has ridiculous expectations of my abilities.
So. There it is. I forgot that taking five 400-level courses might be out of the question on their own. I never even factored in the Writing Center, the dorm job, the secretary job. And i can't stop myself. In two weeks, I'm getting trained as an advocacy volunteer for LGBT people, specializing in an abuse call center type facilitation. Also, I am currently trying to get an internship at the Tucson Weekly. And I shall be continuing my personal transformation at Camp Wildcat. And I may be writing stories for St. Andrew's childcare clinic in Nogales, taking trips down there on the first thursday of every month to be published in their newsletter.
