"I know very little about some of the people on my friends list. Some people I know relatively well. But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's Parker ...she likes money and cereal." I'd love it if everyone who' ( Read more... )

I totally do like money and cereal. I start my first real full-time job in one week. I find children and animals adorable and hilarious but there is a mutual, total lack of understanding between us, probably because children and animals have preternatural senses and can tell I'm secretly a robot.

If you could relive any moment/day/time of your life, what would it be?

Who doesn't like money and cereal? :D Children and animals totally do have preternatural senses. YAY for new jobs! What are you doing?

Ooh, that's a good one! Are we talking relive-so-I-can-do-things-differently or relive-because-it-was-awesome? For the first, um... Probably that day last September when my car got backed into in a parking structure, because that has caused me some serious grief and if I just left a minute earlier or a minute later I'd have been golden.

For the former... I think I'd relive the day I got to go see Wicked in San Francisco for my birthday, because I love musicals and live theater, but I hate that it's not an experience you can easily (or cheaply) repeat, the way that you can with movies and TV.

I'm doing technical writing, which is a vague way of saying "I write help docs and manuals for software!" It's a mixture of a lot of super boringness and a lot of learning interesting shit about software. Have to say, it's a relief to be putting my English degree to work!

Oops, I didn't even think of the alternative interpretations, haha. I was thinking relive-because-it-was-awesome because positivity yay! Seriously, that parking structure doesn't sound fun. Damn. Wicked DOES sound fun! Just gonna say, though, STILL wildly confused that Elphaba and Glinda don't get together. "What is this feeling?" GAY. GAY IS THE FEELING.

And I so agree with the easily repeat thing. I know part of the magic of theater is that every performance is one of a kind, but there is something about being able to relive everything about a movie or episode I love over and over that appeals to my obsessive fangirl side!

Coolness! I always thought that could be a cool way of writing professional, but never really figured out a way to get a foot in the door.

Uggh, it was awful. She backed into me, then told her boyfriend (whose car she was driving) that I sideswiped her. >_< Thank goodness I got pictures, but really, dealing with insurance and busted cars is never fun.

Yeah, it's definitely kind of a bummer! Especially for someone who is (1) broke, and (2) not in New York. There are so many musicals and I can't see any of them! D: Whyyyy don't they film them more often? Ugh. It's part of the reason I was so excited when I found out they were making Les Mis into a movie! I love the soundtrack, but my only exposure to it had been the 10th Anniversary Concert DVDs, and that skips large sections of the story and assumes you know it.

Actually, that happens with a lot of the musicals I love. I fall for their soundtracks, but end up with only really a piecemeal understanding of the story. Sucky!

I got pretty lucky and fell into it because my English department had one of the only two technical writing programs in MA! I really don't know what I would've done about jobs if I hadn't stumbled across that program and the professors in it, honestly.

Aaaaand that's another reason I avoid driving altogether. I would NOT have kept my head in that situation and remembered to take pictures, or known remotely how to respond to someone outright lying like that. What the hell.

What area do you live in? Student productions are usually about as affordable as going to the movies. My friend's in a Dr. Horrible musical next month that I'm super excited for, and this conversation is reminding me that I should take advantage of being in the Boston area and go to more of these things...

Ah, coolness! That's awesome that things worked out so nicely for you. :D

Blargh, yeah. It was at the end of my first day of phlebotomy externship, I'd been standing for eight hours, I was exhausted and my feet hurt and I just wanted to go home. I pretty much just gave her the evil eye while she was on her phone, and then we exchanged insurance information. Another guy there who had seen it took a picture of her bumper for her, so I kind of dazedly asked him to send it to me, too, and then when I got home I took a picture of the side of my car. My mom was like, "You shouldn't have moved! You should have gotten out right where you were and taken pictures of your cars exactly as they were when they hit!", and I was like, "Yeahhh, that was not the first thought in my head at the time, sorry."

I live nearish to San Francisco -- about an hour and a half away. I'm sure there are local student productions of things, I just have no idea how one would go about finding them. D:
