Total number of completed stories in 2013:
Oh man, I have to check, I haven't even counted. I couldn't even guess.
...Apparently the number is 51. Holy crap.
And a half, because of The Write Books About This Sort of Thing, which isn't done yet, but I'm posting it as a WIP, so it counts for half.
Total word count:
366,268. This number, at least, is not a surprise, though it does still blow my mind.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted?
Considering I wrote a grand total of 10k in 2012, I'd say that this is well beyond what I ever could have predicted at this time last year.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I signed up for fests! Actually, this whole year has been marked by me saying that something frightens or intimidates me, and then promptly doing exactly that. "Longfic scares me!" I said. "I like PWP, writing something plotty seems intimidating!" I said. "Oh, I'm not sure about fests, deadlines make me nervous!" I said.
"Ha. Ha. Ha," my muse said.
Do you have any specific fanfic goals for the New Year?
Well, I just signed up for the third round of Trope Bingo and
my card is amazing so I think I will definitely be aiming for another blackout. Other than that, I think my goal is to just keep writing and keep enjoying it.
From my past year of writing, what was…
My best story of this year:
Oof. That's such a judgment call.
You Are the Moon is my current favorite, and I think it's got a lot going for it from a technical standpoint.
My most popular story of this year:
Lay Your Hands on Me, which kind of took on a life of its own and is my most popular fic to date by a rather significant margin. Which is fine by me, because I still love it tons. Fourteen thousand hits, though, good god. That will never not be staggering.
Most fun story to write:
That's probably a toss-up between
Lay Your Hands on Me and
As the Sun Will Rise. On the one hand, lots of music geekery and ridiculously fun hand/finger kink! On the other, Les Amis as Disney characters.
Hardest story to write:
I took a long break in the middle of
In the End We Have Each Other that made it really difficult, once I got back to it, to get back into the groove, and I spent much of the second half of the fic feeling like I was completely failing to live up to the awesome voices and characterizations that I'd had in the first. Still, it all worked out in the end!
Biggest Disappointment:
I don't think any of the fics that I wrote have been disappointing, but of course there's always fics that you wish had reached a larger audience than they do.
The Stars Look Very Different Today, in particular, is one whose hit count occasionally makes me sadface, because I enjoyed it so much, and I think it's a really lovely fic. But it's the rarest of rarepairs, and that pretty much hobbled it from the start.
Story I haven’t yet written, but intend to:
So there's this fic I am definitely going to write where Grantaire is a selkie and Enjolras accidentally steals his pelt and then he ends up with this irritating guy trotting on his heels bugging him constantly and trying to convince him that all his activism is just an effort in futility and working his way under his skin and into his heart and I'm super excited about it.
