Dear 30 Rock...

Dear 30 Rock,

First of all, I would like to thoroughly congratulate you on being renewed for a 6th season. None of us, and by us I include you too, thought that you would make it this far. Though what makes that statement funny is the serious absurdity of it. Of course you would make it this far, because from the get-go you were an absolutely ( Read more... )

Oh! Well then! Let me be the first to officially welcome you to the community =). I can't personally vouch for everyone here, I've only had a livejournal for about a year, but I love this group. Jack/Liz writers are few and far between, but we're dedicated.

I'm also glad that you're glad you've stumbled upon my blog =D. It gives me a reason to continue writing.

Well, it's complicated. I guess even though I say that I'm stubborn enough to continue shipping them no matter what happens, and I'll probably continue writing them, but I just don't see it happening. Tina Fey has said it a million times. And to be perfectly honest, if I was in her position, I would probably have done the same thing. Especially considering that she based the Jack character off of Lorne Michaels, and I would be a little uncomfortable if I ever had to write an intimate moment about a persona of me and my mentor.

Avery being pregnant isn't really what solidified it for me. It's just the way that the writers have approached the subject. Through most of season 4 they seemed to be teasing the thought, and even went out of there way to stop it from being considered a sensible option. (example? The Moms episode, Colleen I suspect had the perfect opportunity to tell Jack that he should go for Liz, and I would be lying if I said I hadn't held my breath during that scene, only to frown moments later).

Then, looking at the audience's perception of it, it seems most of the general audience isn't that keen on the idea either. There are a few in this community, and I'm sure there are others out there, but it seems to be a really small demographic.

I've been told by dozens of my friends that "of course they're not together, if they did that the show would be over, they're waiting for the end of the show". I guess I'm still hoping-against-hope that the kid really isn't Jack's, or that it ends up like every single one of his marriage proposals and ends in disaster, but with this show, you really never know what to expect. It's what makes the jokes so fresh and awesome, but with something like this it's kind of painful.

I could also still hope that they're holding out for the end, but I'm running out of energy, and the thought of 30 rock ending is sort of melancholy =/

Wow! Another long post! Wasn't kidding when I said it was complicated xD. Sorry to be pessimistic.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I had no idea Lorne Michaels inspired Jack. Eh, it kind of makes sense now that Tina Fey would not write Jack/Liz into the plot... I hope that later this season you'll write an updated review of season five!
