While the events of '07 weren't quite as monumental as '06, quite a bit was still going on. I met a lot of interesting people, increased my standing at work, got back out on my own with an apartment in Chico, obtained a very complicated love life for a short amount of time and, most importantly, managed to stay positive throughout most of it. Life could always be better. Life could be worse. But when it boils down to it, at the end of the day, my life is good. And I'm happy. If not a little bored sometimes. I'll have to take steps to change that.
I need to learn a couple new things to keep myself interested. I'm going to make the time to learn fencing and the violin. Two things that continue to hold my interest. And moving to the Bay Area, something I will be doing this year, will make that easier as the resources will be closer at hand.
Also, in the hobby area of things, I'm going to pick up cooking. My good friends bought me the American heart association cook book and I plan to use it liberally. Apparently it has recipes in it for every conceivable occasion. So we'll give that a go.
While I do want to be a better dancer, maybe I need to make a resolution that doesn't have anything to do with hobbies. Hmmmmm.....
I've come to realize that in this past year I've done a lot more growing as an adult than ever before. That's due in no small part to my job. I've been given more responsibility and discovered how my brain behaves in the face of many tasks with subordinates to carry them out. Having people work under me was definitely something new for me. In all honesty I'm still trying to construct my behavior as a "boss" of sorts.
I've also discovered how I want to look and act as I am now entering adulthood. I will never give up the nerdy part of me. The part that watches cartoons, plays video games and blogs about movies. But I've realized that that part of me is something I want to hold under the surface, but not hide. On the outside I'm projecting someone of a professional nature. "Can you see that under the suit and tie this guy is covered from head to toe in tattoos and spends his off time playing the violin and questing on World of Warcraft?" That's who I want to be. A well groomed nerd. I want to be surprising.
