Water

May 23, 2012 00:30

Thank kami the water is safe to drink again! We cna resume fishing without fear, I hope, and preserve what is left of the fruit from the trees. Until someone is willing to go deeper into the jungle, we're starting to harvest the trees and bushes bare. Here's hoping rescue will arrive soon.

The fish are still alive, even after all of this?

The salt water fish should be. I would wait a while for the fresh water fish to see about them.

Haha yeah, wouldn't want to eat poisoned fish.

It'd be great if we had chickens on this island ...

Yeah, that would be bad. There are already enough risks with seafood.

Yeah, but I don't think they're native to this island. To be honest the only animals I've seen are fish.

Hmm, like what? Like ... people having allergies or something?

Haha no, I don't think chickens are on here either. Unless they flew over here? Chickens can't fly, right? I'm sure there's some kind of animal on this island, like boars perhaps? Rabbits? Fish can't be the only thing, I think. I mean, the island is pretty big and we haven't really explored much, I'm sure there's more out there.

Allergies, food poisoning if it's not cooked right. Mercury poisoning, all kinds of things can happen.

I'm sure there are some sort of wild animals out here. We just haven't seen any yet. I think they're all hiding farther inland than anyone has gone yet.

Sounds gross, I'm happy nothing of the sort has happened yet.

I think one of these days, if we're still here, we should gather a search party to explore more of the island, so we can get a grasp of how big it really is, and what's out there. The furthest anyone has gone is Kite, and he's chilling in his treehouse that's in the jungle somewhere.

Me too. It'part of why I'm hoping the freshwater fish will be safe to eat soon. I think they contain less mercury.

Kite is talking about dong it soon. We should try and get a hunting party together just in case.

Doesn't cooking them thoroughly make it safe to eat though? I don't really know anything about mercury, I just know that most bacteria die off when it's well-cooked.

Sounds good, as long as we don't run into any traps Kite has laid out, then we should definitely do this. Gather up all the capable people, and set out for a day or two even.

Yeah, thorough cooking is key with any kind of meat.

Yeah, we should start small though to avoid scaring animals off out of where we can follow them. A group of three or four to start with might be best.

We have a chef on the island, Taka-san, we could always ask him! Especially since he works with sushi, I'm sure he'll know loads about preparing fish.

Haha ... should we carry a bow an arrow with us too!? I think I saw Kite mention he'll make one. But yeah, three or four sounds ideal.

If you can make one, go for it. I'm letting Kite take the lead on this snce he's the one with survival training. And if he picks the group, he's less likely to lead them into his traps. But we could always try sending two parties if you're really wanting to go.

Ah, good idea! We can ask him if he's willing to help prepare the fish properly. We need more people helping with the fishing too if we're going to get enough to feed everyone. I've made a makeshift spear that can be used for hunting, but I've mostly been using it for fishing. I can show you how to spear hunt fish if you'd like.

Oh, uhh, I have absolutely no idea how to make one, though I think Kite does. Like you said; he's got the survival training. I'm sure Kite won't mind if I come along!

Definitely, he's the go-to guy for cooking fish. I can actually catch fish barehanded! In ... small fresh-water streams that is, which I haven't found yet. Never caught one with a spear though, but that sounds cool, I'd love to be able to do it.

(OOC: Momo you two-faced liar, Kite doesn't want you anywhere near him XD)

Catching fish barehanded is quite impressive! I found some rocks we can use to make spearheads out of, so if you come down by my boat, I can show you how to make them and teach you to fish that way. Bring some rope if you can find some though, otherwise we'll have to try and make it by hand.

Do we need to use rocks? I mean, we've got a ton of materials on the ship still, like ... marble. Is marble harder than stone? Maybe Atobe has diamonds, now I know that's the hardest kind of material in the world for sure!

Alright, I will! There's plenty of rope available here.

Marble isn't a rock that you can use other rocks to shape very easily. It's too hard for that. It could work to shape a softer rock though, if you can get a hand sized piece of it loose. The other good option would be sharp knives. But I was thinking we should save those for Taka-san to prep the fish with.
