Bored in World Issues. Will right random LJ post
5 Most popular songs of my lifetime(in no particular order:
1. Baha Men - Who Let The Dogs Out
The biggest song ever to come out of Trinidad and Tobago, this song was probably the most overplayed song I have ever heard. Even after it was dead both officially and unnofficially, some DJs(like thoe one at our Gr. 8 dance) still played it. And now, no one dares to say the name Baha Men.
2. Backstreet Boys - Larger than Life
I can remember back in the day, no one (in our Gifted class at least) knew what Kevin and Brian and Howie and the other 2 were talking about(Nick Carter and one more) in the song. Nevertheless it was voted the best song in our school in our gr 7 and 8 years I believe(something beginning with A?).
3. Eminem - The Real Slim Shady
Boy, was I an idiot back then. I couldn't get my mind around the fact that his real name was Marshall Mathers, his rap alias was Eminem, and his rap alter ego was Slim Shady. But I, and all these others use to LOVE on that song. All these people who are now hardcore rock/punk/alternative fans were quoting things about Eminem's life and memorizign the entire song. Fortunately, this song died before I could fully memorize the lyrics.
4. 50 Cent - In Da Club
50 Cent came out of nowhere on the 8 Mile soundtrack and soon became the biggest new artist in recent memory. As the result of a bullet to the mouth, he got a peculiar slur in his voice that people liked. His quite dirty lyrics changed the track that rap was going in from writing about things other than women and drugs, and inspired established artists to dirtify their lyrics and started a whole new flow of new rappers in the industry i.e. J-Kwon, Li'l Flip, etc.
5. Avril Lavigne - Complicated
There were a lot of songs that could've been put here We interrupt this broadcast with a message from an unidenfitified species. Their Leader, Tasha has a message for you.
Hi.
Message Over. Resume regular progamming now but Complicated is the one that stands out the most to me because so many people insulted Avril and this song, yet in reality they loved it. It crossed borders like few other songs do. So even though other songs of various genres may've sold more, who in North America can't sign the first line from the chorus of "Complicated"?
