I've fallen behind in my reading and my posting.

The Next Decade: Where We've Been and Where We're Going by George Friedman. Nonfiction

Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris. Fantasy/Mystery. Another in the Sookie series. This one has more about Vampire politics.

Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C Clarke. SF Classic re-read for book club. Essentially it is a plot-driven explore the mysterious object book.

Agent of Change by Lee & Miller. SF/Action. The first of the Liaden novels. The old story of boy meets girl is reshaped as the boy is a spy for interplanetary traders with an implanted computer that calculates the odds of surviving his every action and the girl is an ex-mercenary with a price on her head.

Deer Hunting with Jesus by Joe Bageant. Nonfiction about a redneck community in West Virginia and why they continue to support conservative policies that are not in their best interest.

After-Shock: The Next Economy and America’s Future by Robert B. Reich. Nonfiction about the economy

Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N. K. Jemisin. Fantasy. I was very impressed by this first novel that wound up being Hugo nominated.

How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe by Charles Yu. I couldn't tell if this was a humor book whose editor told the author to add more pathos or a very sad drama about a man unable to come to terms with his past whose editor said to make it funny. Either way, there are two styles here that don't mesh.

Hugo nominated stories. Read the stories, novellas, and novelettes so I could vote. I'll count as SF

Waifs and Strays by Charles De Lint. Fantasy short stories. As usual his stories are excellent. I'd say he's a more consistent short story writer than novelist.

So that's four SF (including one classic reread and one set of stories), three fantasy (including one collection), and three nonfiction so 10 books total, and 93.5 for the year.

sf, reading, science fiction, fantasy, books, nonfiction
