The best laid plans of mice and men.

John is a lot of things, but he is rarely stupid. Reckless, yes. But observant. Calculating, to a degree. He thinks things through. Looks at them from various angles. Even when this behavior annoys him, even when it makes him feel abnormal or over-paranoid, he does it.

So this is what he thinks: whether he likes it or not, Allison won't leave the possibility of Sarah in Arkham alone. He can't talk her out of that, he knows it. He can't convince Dib not to tell her, either. He can't lie to her if he finds out before she does.

Part of him doesn't want to convince her not to do it. Part of him does. Part of him wants to do it instead, part of him knows he couldn't.

It's his mother. Whether he likes it or not.

What he can do, what he will do, it plan. Ideas, plots, contingencies. He doesn't know what, exactly, Allison thinks she's going to do and he damned sure isn't going to ask.

But he can plan to get her out of it. And he will do just that.

[sarah], [allison], [narrows], [narrative]
