At some point the purchasing of alcohol was discussed and more or less agreed upon. If by 'agreed upon' one means 'John was curious and Allison didn't mind', which John thinks may or may not be the way that most experiments the two of them engage in from here on out manage to start.
He's not complaining, it was just interesting.
They couldn't go nuts. For one there was a limited about of cabinet space to begin with and for another John didn't want to have to get rid of a lot of bottles, whether or not they decided to try this again. There was always the chance that they would end up hating alcohol anyway.
