What I've been up to

Mar 08, 2014 13:10

Actually, not much of anything other than the usual work, work, family, work. :)

I feel really rusty updating. I've let my writing slough off until LJ looks intimidating every time I'm logged on. I'm so used to a sentence or two being enough on my FB that more detail than that and I feel as though I'm talking to the air.

But I'm not. I'm talking to ya'll. :)

So in mid-January, I suddenly started feeling those horrible pain down my right side, which progressed to unbearable in about fifteen minutes. I called my brother (my husband was at work and initially unreachable), who drove over, threw me in his truck, and took me to the ER. The pain was so bad I thought I was going to have to throw up but no matter how bad things are, guaranteed that by the time you reach the ER, it will go away. And it did. But I described what I felt and they ended up doing an ultrasound, a regular one and a vaginal one (oh what fun that was).

Long story short, they couldn't find what was causing my pain but they did spot a fibroid in my uterus. The ER doctor also told me I was really anemic. And that made sense because I had been having incredibly heavy menstruation for the last six months. So heavy that I was getting very fatigued even when I wasn't on my period. I figured the fibroid and the heavy bleeding were related.

I made an appointment with my OB/GYN about a month later, and he confirmed what the ER said and I what I came to think. So he said he'd do a hysteroscopy, that he'd recess(?) the fibroid and possibly do an endo-something ablation, if he got in there (my uterus) and saw that it wasn't the fibroid causing the heavy bleeding.

An outpatient procedure that I had yesterday morning. It's amazing. I remember getting on the operating room table and literally the very next second, I was waking up in the recovery area. I'm usually a very healthy person. Other than my C-Sections, I've never had anything resembling a surgical procedure, and this was a relatively minor one to boot. But after I woke up, and all the way through the rest of the day and last night, and this morning, I have felt like I was hit by a truck. The cramping has mostly receded, thank God, but the dizziness and nausea has not. I've tried caffeine, food, water, and Ibuprofen and it's still not going anywhere.

So if anyone out there has gone through this before and has any tips that will get me back on my feet and away from the bobbing boat that has me so upended, I'd greatly appreciate it. I need to be back at work on Monday and I'd like to feel more human than I do right now. :)
