I was reading a story by
ficwriter1966 and realized she raised a really good point.
I know a lot of people think Sam asked Dean to come with him when he'd left for college.
ficwriter1966 mentioned it in her fic - but from an original point of view - from John's. The man was hurt that Sam had asked Dean, but didn't ask him.
Which, ouch.
Yeah, something to think about.
Personally, I don't believe Sam asked Dean to come with him, and I'll keep thinking that way until proven otherwise. I think Sam may have wanted to, but chickened out, afraid Dean wouldn't choose him. I think he pushed Dean away to make things easier for both of them. And yeah, I think Sam's selfish, but in not asking Dean, he also didn't force his brother to make a choise that would hurt him so very much.
In my own personal canon, Sam was more terrified of telling Dean than he was terrified of telling John - because he'd made the decision to quit hunting, to walk out on John. He knew though, that he might lose Dean in the process, and that was a huge price to pay. He could ask Dean to come, but risk him saying no and having no more hope of his brother eventually following him.
But that's just me.
Anyway - not asking John to come. Ouch. *pets John*
