I was really hoping to get dodger_winslow to write this bunny.
tagline - John realizing one day that Dean is interested in the other sex. Not a 'oops, I've been away too long and missed too much' kind of story, but a 'weren't you just born last week?' kind of story.
Since she doesn't seem to be interested, I'm gonna keep the bunny for now.
What I've got so far:
john's having a cup of coffee, going over the paper as the boys come back from school. Dean's 12? 13? Sam's teasing him - 'Dean has a girlfriend, Dean has a girlfriend' 'shut up, Sam'. John smiles into his coffee, mostly ignoring the teasing until the words sink in. Dean has a girlfriend? Huh? When did this happen? Isn't he the one who always says girls are yucky?
Sam keeps teasing in a singsong voice - 'Dean and Sandy, sittin' in a tree, k-i-s-s- ow!' 'shut up fart breath!'
and John's caught up reminiscing about Dean in pre-school, how he came home crying because Sue-Anne threw her pudding at him, and Mary-Beth keeps pulling his hair, and he hates girls!
he's so lost in the memory that by the time he says 'watch your mouth', neither of the boys are in the room with him.
Starts noticing things after that -
They're at WallMart or whatever, and John notices girls looking at Dean and giggling, but not in a funny ha ha kind of way, but in a girly 'I like him' kind of way. He notices Dean watching, too. Catching his kid trying to shave his baby-butt smooth face, looking in the mirror for ages.
The kid no longer wants John to drop him off at school, not that John cares about what he wants so much, because safety first is a Winchester rule, but still. Dean's growing up. And has no idea when that had happened.
I mean, just the other day, he was walking around the house, trying to get baby Dean to sleep, with Dean crying loud enough to wake the neighbors, until Mary suggested they took a ride in the car. Two minutes and the baby was out like a light. And now the kid was asking him to teach him to drive. Not before you can reach the paddles, kiddo, John had told him, but he was still planning on starting to teach the kid soon, just in case.
More when I can think about it. And actually make a story.
I really wish dodger would write it, though. I love her John. *sigh*
