Disney World

We spent four days in Disney World this past weekend.  I don't think I've ever walked so much in my life.  According to Joey's dad's pedometer, we walked over 25 miles.   This was our first trip without a stroller and the kids did great.  Not a single complaint or meltdown.  Amazing.

I, on the other hand, ended up with a huge crack in my heel.  I ( Read more... )

Disney recruits a lot of college-aged kids to work the park. Kids from all over the world, actually. They like to have 'Germany' in Epcot staffed by Germans.

Oh, and all Disney employees are called cast members.

So anyway, these young people live on the Disney World compound (which is gigantic- only something like 1/4 of it is being used for parks and resorts) in dorms. I am sure there are a bunch of locals who work for Disney, too, who don't live in the dorms, but the dorms are a big 'perk' since you don't have to find housing.

It's one big party/sex-fest.

I kind of wish I'd known about this program when I was younger. Not because of the drinking and sex (although being able to say that I fucked Donald Duck would be a great story) but because it would be a cool experience.

When we ate at the Biergarten, our host and waitress were German. What's cool about Disney is that each 'cast member' has a name tag with their name and hometown and country on it. I actually struck up a conversation with a guy from Ithaca who worked Expedition Everest.

Biergarten was pretty darn good, by the way. I got to have some red cabbage, which is one of my favorite foods. And the cheesecake was just like the cheesecake I had in Germany, which isn't really like American cheesecake at all.

Joey loved the beer.

Yep. My friends lived in a dorm called "Vista Way"... nicknamed "Vista Lay". Some of the stories they told me would've made Larry Flynt blush... and this was within 24 hours of them showing up.

Do you really think that there was that much more debauchery than you'd have any time you put a bunch of young, horny, attractive (because Disney doesn't like dogs, apparently,) college-aged kids together with minimal supervision?
