Attended an intro to comic drawing workshop offered by the local library system a few weeks ago. (Nervously) showed my sketchbook to the class. Instructor noted (instantly) that my art was heavily anime-inspired. Not that it was a bad thing, just that it was obvious. He mentioned I had a good understanding of basic drawing and underlying structure. He asked if I had ever taken life drawing classes.
That made me think.
Decided on experimenting with a more realistic style today. Drew three of the characters from the webcomic project in the original style and in a less cartoony one.
Meh.
Had trouble remembering facial anatomy from art class way back when. I've forgotten how to draw realistic eyes. Had to fake that, along with noses, but realistic noses were always a weak point for me.
'Twas nice practice, but I think I'll stick to the original style for the comic. More realism makes them more difficult to draw, takes longer and is harder to stay consistent over several drawings. Definitely not good for a comic I hope will run for a while yet.
Again, comments open for feedback.
-S@m,
who needs to finish those character designs so she can get freaking started.
