Someone at NBC is very smart.

A little over a week ago I heard about the latest SNL Digital Short that everybody was becoming obsessed with; this one featured Natalie Portman doing some hardcore raps and hitting people with chairs. However, when I followed the links to YouTube that my friends sent me, all I got were error messages saying that the video had been removed for copyright infringement. Naturally, I assumed that the TV industry was about to go the way of the RIAA and show their total disregard for both the potential of the internet and its inevitable domination of our world.

It turns out I was mistaken. Instead of getting angry that everyone was watching those SNL shorts illegally on YouTube and trying to sue fans, NBC just put free, higher-quality versions on their own site. I'm glad to see that at least one person understands that giving things away for free isn't always bad, as I'm sure those videos have generated a ton of revived interest in SNL, which has been pretty bad for the past 8 years or so, in addition to reminding people that their other shows are solid too. Good job, mystery NBC man (or woman)... I give you my props.
