You've probably heard about mashups, songs that combined two different songs into one wacky (and sometimes brilliant) concoction. Well, now they have a mashup sport. Actually, come to think of it, there have been a lot of mashup sports: the triathalon, ice dancing, frisbee golf. So maybe mashup sports aren't the exciting new trend. But the latest one is probably the coolest sport ever. It combines chess and boxing into one ubersport cleverly named
Chessboxing.
Basically, chessboxers compete for eleven rounds, alternating between four-minute rounds of chess and two-minute rounds of boxing. They can win by checkmate, KO, time, or, if there's a tie, by happening to be black in the chess games. Competitors must be strong fighters, intelligent chess players, and adept at switching between the two modes of thinking. Whoever comes out on top is probably one of the most hardcore people around.
Obviously, I will be submitting a proposal to start a club team here at Columbia. I expect my friends here to sign up, and my friends at other school to start teams so mine can kick your ass. Yeah, what now?
