I apologize in advance for this boring entry on my life and comics...

I screwed up my courage today and visited a comic book store for the first time in... well, a really long time. I just kinda wanted to go check one out. It was slightly overwhelming, but thankfully not because of the nerdiness or the lack of personal hygiene that usually accompany that sort of place. It was actually just the sheer volume of stuff that a store like that has, stuff that I no longer really know anything about. Except I sorta do, even if I didn't know a damn thing about all the weird indie comics that they had. It's a weird sensation. It was a lot like showing up to a big party last winter break. A lot of people and you think you know them, but everyone's subtly changed.
I ended up buying the second part of this Superman comic that I'd had lying around my house, so I could find out what happened. I also bought the first collection of Swamp Thing comics. Yeah, I know what you're thinking... SWAMP THING?!? It turns out it was written by Alan Moore, who is pretty much the best comic book writer ever, not to mention an excellent author in general, and he managed to make Swamp Thing into a cool, scary comic. Moore weaves his multiple narratives together in a way that is always both incredibly intricate and organic. I strongly urge you to pick up one of his two major works, Watchmen and V For Vendetta. Both are excellent pieces of fiction regardless of whether you like comics or not.

But yeah, I like comics. I didn't realize it, but I sorta missed them.

(I kinda felt like I ought to update, even though vacation has been pretty boring... deal with it... or better yet, throw a party nearby and invite me!)

superheroes, life
