Waiting Room Musings

Dec 07, 2005 00:43

So I was sitting in the waiting room at the hospital, listening to bad daytime TV (I couldn't see it cause my seat was directly below the TV set), when they started talking about "energy vampires". Apparently, "energy vampires" are people who suck up all your energy and leave you unable to do, well, anything. So then they brought on the expert who just wrote a book on the topic, and she started talking about the different types and how to combat them. She kept using "they" alot, as if they were some sort of creature of the night... like... a vampire! And what's funny is that if you strip away all the D&D vocab and new age hippie crap, all the lady has to say is, "There are people in your life who are pains in the ass. You should tell them to stop or avoid them."

Eventually (and mercifully), they cut to a commercial break, and I noticed that all the commercials were about medicine. Y'know, "Switch to this medicine and take control of your diabetes!" And I thought to myself, "why is it that all the commercials are aimed at sick people?" And my self actually came up with an answer rather quickly, which was that the only people who watch daytime TV are the people who are unlucky enough to be sitting in hospital waiting rooms.

I think I ought to bring a book next time. A long one.
