Visiting Twins

Apr 18, 2006 20:25

We finally got to see the newly arrived twins today. Having stuffed the boot of the car with baby related stash we no longer use, plus presents I was very keen to see the babas and see the aquisitive look in the parents' eyes as they unwrapped the swag. After what can only be called a Hellish pre-delivery period and a slightly unnerving post delivery period both parents were consumed with what I believe are termed "shit-eating grins". We saw pictures of Mum before the birth and by God she was huge. Twins and pre-eclampsia do not a small mother make but still, Crikey! She couldn't even bend far enough forward to round her back for the epidural. We did get to share pre-eclampsia club stories but mine were very much in the ha'penny place beside hers.

The twins are big for twins, at 6.5 pounds each or thereabouts but are still soooo tiny. Dad came downstairs with his new son held in one hand!!! We did get to do some baby cuddling before we left. Sadly we couldn't stay as long as we might have done because DD had a slight temp' plus a stuffed head and seemed infectious, or at least too infectious for tiny babies to deal with. She was not pleased to miss the visit but was slightly mollified when we told her that the babies did nothing but sleep while we were there - which was pretty much the truth.

Off back to sunny Cork tomorrow. May it keep fine for us! More people killed on the roads this Easter weekend than for ten plus years though. Apparently a horrifying proportion of fatal accidents in cars involve emigres from the Baltic State - most of whom are also driving without insurance because it is so expensive here. Grim reading!
