Soylent Green is Birthday Cake

Feb 13, 2008 23:02

Well it has been a busy Five Birthday in chez wol. Was up at the crack of dawn to go ad do a Driving Test Practice at the very hour I'll be doing it on the day and it is a lot scarier than at 3.30 on a Sunday afternoon. Passing will not be quite the piece of cake I was beginning to feel it would be. Bugger! Still, forewarned is four legged or some such.

Mr Wol is watching Phoo Action. I find it a touch frenetic for this time of night and it's title is making me hum Human League lyrics so am a tad resentful. So far there are magic pants and monster muppets and what looks like a mutant version of Jimmy Hill. Has headache now.

DD was five today. She was greeted with presents, cards, a banner and lots of balloons, although her proper party has to wait until the weekend when us and about 15 other kids will descend on a local soft play centre and rip it up good :) We spent today, DD's actual birthday, at Fota Island. BB now has a new favourite place. Animals, kids, mud, sticks to chew, playgrounds, sticks covered in mud to chew; who could ask for more?! I made the picnic to end all picnics. We even had individual pavlovas, made on the spot with cream and raspberries. DD thinks it is OK being 5 so far. It was a gorgeous day, one of the first really sunny days we have had this year. All the animals were out sunning themselves and generally doing stuff. Everything seems to have babies: the siamang, the capybara, the white handed gibbons, even some perfectly ordinary ducks who have moved in on the ponds. Others thoughts were turning to lurve with the pelicans and big pelican stalking the smaller pelican and the giraffes all sniffing one another's personal parts and having a gallop about. The ring tailed lemurs were out raiding the picnic tables just like old times - actually their dip routine was a shade stunning in its professionalism. It was a great day and bless Mr Wol for taking the day off and making it a full family day and saving me from total exhaustion in the process.

Now, the green factor. While I was doing my driving practice DD helped Mr Wol make her birthday cake and decided that she wanted it to be green, as green is the current favourite colour. Mr Wol is used to the pink food colouring which is on the gentle side. Green is not. Green food colouring is GREEN!!!! As a result DD's cake is one of the greenest things I have ever seen. The outside is now nicely camouflaged with icing and sprinkles and candles etc. but cut into it and the inner surface of the sponge is about the same shade as a 7-Up bottle. Well we know what to do for St Patrick's day. Happy birthday squirrel!
