A peculialy Irish little ideology, this. Involves having no career despite spectacular education, a penchant for odd little things like modernist poetry or German Baroque statues, can patronisingly look down on the plebs but is often left-of-centre in a peculiarly conservative sort of way. Mostly Church of Ireland or non-religious, a dollop of left-liberal Catholics and an occasional sprinkle of real ultramontane capital-R-Roman Catholic fogeys. Has no money, but feels in a just society it ought to. Tends to vote Alliance, Fine Gael, perhaps Ulster Unionist (although the last only with a degree of embarrassment these days), increasingly Irish Labour or Green. If very lefty and nationalist might just about vote Sinn Féin these days (think O Snodaigh). Can vote SDLP, but only if from a very privileged Protestant background. Hate Fianna Fáil, the DUP, and all their works. They find them to be Very New Money. Tweeds if of the older generation or a real fogey, more likely to be tank top and t-shirt with jeans for the younger ones.
