'An analysis of sim genetics after 5 generations' -or- 'Look, I made some TREES!'
Sim genetics have always interested me. For three reasons, I think:
1) Because sims are more fun to breed than pea plants.
2) Because filling out Punnett squares was probably the only part of 7th grade science I enjoyed.
3) Because I myself am a child of weird recessive genes, as you can see from this actual family photo:
Why yes, we are a family of floating-head doodle monsters connected by a series of magical floating black lines ;)
Anyway...all this is my way of saying I'm having a blast with my alphabetacy AKA 'The thing I do with sims when I'm not taking pictures for dares' because I get to breed sims and see what weird genetics pop up later.
The WARDSBACK FAMILY TREE(s)
So, the background. The founder is Zanita. She was a lilac-skinned, pink-eyed, elf-eared brunette who, thanks to the laws of custom sim genetics, passed down her skin and eye color to all three of her kids. Unfortunately the elf ears did not continue...
We'll look at Yardsley's branch first. He was the eldest son of the founder and as such, the heir (my sims are 'royalty' so the eldest is always heir to the founder's throne). All of my sims reproduce (no spares without heirs) but for the most part only the heir is allowed three kids. Of course, twin births can't be helped. The current heir at this time is Vincent, a yellow nerd elf. I was seriously considering just letting him reproduce via alien probination but that would probably wipe out the founder's skin in the heir line forever. And then he went to uni and fell in love with Sarah Love, so there's her too...with her wantin' baby wants and everything. :)
Vincent wondering if it wouldn't be easier to fall back on the 'reproduce via telescope' option than try to figure out a female

Fun things about this branch:
-The founder's skin skipped her granddaughter Xanthippe but showed up again in G-granddaughter Wynonna. Love it!
-Blonde hair showed up in Van Halen & -even though it doesn't look like it, she is a natural blonde- Villanueva, thanks to their grandmother Noelle.
-Possible carriers of the founder's skin include:
-All three of the yellow Summerdream kids (Puck's custom skin overrode anything their mom passed down)
-Vernon, Van Halen, Vadim, & Vivian.
-Which means only Vladimir has a 0% chance of passing it down to his kids as his skin color is a mix of his Dad's S4 & Mom's S2.
--But...Vernon is marrying Bottom Summerdream (his cousins' aunt, HAHA!) so her deep purpleness is going to override any lilacness he might carry. :(
-The elf ears came back thanks to Puck (Hail, King Robin!). Both Vincent & Villanueva have them. :D
-I can't really comment on eye color at this point because I fudged up. It didn't dawn on me until Gen5 was born that the custom eyes I'd given all the extracted premades added to this hood were NOT geneticized and therefore were appearing in every single descendant of said extracted premades. Whoops. So all of Puck's kids have his custom eyes. Everyone else in this branch has the standard 5 colors, or the pink, or are special like Van Halen and inherited green eyes from his mom (thanks to some other recessive gene passed down through his dad, HOT Winston).
Prince Vincent and his sisters before he went off to uni:
After five generations, I'd given up caring and let them wear whatever they grew up into, but I think it works.
Vincent is a nice, nerdy knowledge sim whereas his sister Valerie is a one nice point, man-eating pleasure sim.
Let's look at Branch #2, Yasmeen's branch.
Yasmeen married Brandon Lillard and his brown eyes overrode her pink ones, effectively killing them off in this branch forever. RIP Pink eyes. :( Also the skin. But Brandon did one good thing - besides starting up Lillard's Fine Toilets & Clothiers:
And giving jobs to all the Elder Zombie Witches in the hood and making over his mortal enemy into a lovely transvestite...
Brandon brought RED HAIR into the family! Huzzah!
I don't know what it is with this branch, but it kept marrying in weirdos who dyed their hair. First Brandon, and then Gilbert & Kaylynn.
Fun facts about this branch:
-I fixed Gilbert's face before he bred. No way was I letting his real face pass down, yech. (I don't know about the rest of you, but I like to pronounce his name gil-BEAR jack-WAY even though it's been years since I took high school French and therefore have no idea if it's correct. But really how many Gilbert's are there in France? (according to wikipedia Gilbert is 'a British Isles given name of Norman-French and Old German origins' which means-None, they all left France in 1066, hah!)
-Xian & Xingu, Yasmeen's twin sons, would have been perfect physical clones if it wasn't for their hair color. Then Xian+Violet had Wyatt, who was a clone of his uncle because he had brown hair. So thanks, Violet, for really doing your part to increase the diversity in this branch. Argh. At least Viktor has his mommy's nose...which is scary and exciting at the same time (have you seen the Pleasant twin's nose on adult sims? Eek!)
-Wilhelmina was a clone (except for skin & hair color) of her dad. Then Valentine was a clone (except for hair color) of his dad. Which means the only interesting part of this family is...
-Kaylynn's daughter, Whitney. She was the first in the whole family to inherit a recessive hair color, thanks to two sims who dyed their hair. And her twins with Geoff Rutherford turned out super scary looking, but that's mostly because of their super-pale custom eyes. My bad. Geoff is a such a hottie. I really hope something fixes itself with Valmont when he ages up because right now I think he looks like a serial-killer...I think it's that one nice point he has. Hmm..
This branch may be full of romance sims but it's rather boring, genetics-wise. Let's move onto the crazies.

So...Yoda got abducted, had baby #1, had baby #2 with wife Melody Tinker, got abducted again, had baby #3. My multi-PT set served me well in that I got 2 different alien fathers to probinate Yoda.
Fun facts:
-Yoda & Melody's son, Xenon. I think I screamed when he was born....because I had no idea where the S2 came from. Then I realized it came from Yoda's dad Zack. Grumble, grumble. Meant the founder's skin didn't get passed down. :( Besides the skin color, Xenon was a clone of Melody.
-Xenon married Sandra Roth and their daughter Wednesday ended up with black hair, which came four generations back from either Zack or Stephen (though I don't know if Melody actually carries a gene for black hair from her dad).
-Xerxes (purple alien) married Roxie Sharpe and all of their descendants carried her S1 and his alien eyes. Wilford's black hair, though, came from Zack (again!) as both Yoda & the purple alien who probinated him had brown hair.
-Xenia married Xander Roth and their daughter inherited Xenia's elf ears, which she passed down to her kids. And then Xenia's green skin popped up again in the grandkids! Yay!
-All three GenW couples had natural twin births. And all 6 of those babies have black hair and either the custom alien eyes or pale green Roth eyes. That's when I realized things weren't right and geneticized all the eyes.
-I have no idea what Leo Wilkie's actual hair color is. He's been an Elder Witch Zombie since Generation 1 when Zack encouraged him to play with his cowplant, heh heh.
-I bred Edwin and Meadow just so I could have a blonde kid. They might marry into the family later, but for now they're enjoying being the Vampire King & Queen and mistreating the other two Elder Zombie Witches that still reside in their castle.
-And if you wonder what Wanda's doing with a plantsim son, well, a long time ago I decided to fulfill her 'marry 6 kids' the easy way by turning her into a plantsim and spawning a bunch of leaflings. The first one was so hideous I stopped. It looked -I kid you not- exactly like this. So for some sick, nostalgic sake I decided to try and recreate the beast but all I got was goofy Tristan. I didn't know what to do with him so I had him seduce the maid and adopt my two favorite townie kids.

I'm still working on the next maxis-taste dare, but I just can't get into it. I had the same problem with an earlier one and still haven't finished that one. In case the same thing happens again, I just want to post this:
Even as a woman he's gorgeous. Why couldn't his kids look like this?!
