Sweat and Sand

This morning I "rushed" the ocean with Riptide. We met at 7:00 am and drove down to the beach so we could all hold onto each other and run into the ocean, wearing our orange Riptide t-shirts, yelling "Go Waves!" Not incredibly significant, but a lot of fun. And the water wasn't as cold as we thought it would be; much warmer than Santa Cruz, I can tell you. There was also a film crew there shooting a Hallmark movie called "Love and Other Four Letter Words". So if anyone ever sees that, know that the pier in the movie is in Malibu and Sam has been in those waves.

Sweat has been apart of my every day, whether it's hiking up hills to get to my dorm, running around the track for lacrosse conditioning, running at practice, or toughing out a Pilates class.

Friday I went to the Promenade with some girls in my dorm and saw The Last Kiss. It was like watching a car wreck, it was so emotionally draining. You just watch all the characters make bad choices that tear relationships apart. It was a good movie, I guess, but not a feel-good movie.

Saturday I went to at Dodger's game with my dorm, which was interesting. We got there in the 3rd inning, and watched the score go from 3-1 to 11-1. Then we got food, and came back 2 and half innings later to the same score. Then we got lost coming back home. It was a lot of fun, though.

It's funny that Pepperdine is definitely 'home' now. Ever since taking the road trip down to SD and back, driving up the long hill to the school feels like I'm coming back to all things familar in Malibu. Which I am, really, but it's still nice to feel like I have my "home away from home" here.

What I'm working on now is getting a home church. There's one just down the road that I really like for a lot of reasons, most of which I think are pointers from God that I should get involved (the main sanctuary having ceiling fans overhead is something I like, but is probably not from God). But the messages have been very oriented about what makes a good church body-people who serve. And that's exactly what I'm looking for in a church. Grow closer to God by reaching to Him and others. Be the church that Christ calls you to be, and don't just nick-pick at what you think is wrong with the church. All stuff that resounds with me. The hard part is logistics: I need to find someone willing to spend as much time there as me so I can get rides.

Tonight I go to my first dance session with the Swing Club. Tomorrow I turn in my first paper.
