Diamond in the Rough

Diamonds last forever
but the love it represents
does not necessarily present
such an ever lasting life

A wife who's bored
becomes a whore
because her husband's strung out on the floor again
But it's better like this
It's better than the endless counts of beatings
This long since gone fleeting love.

It’s hard to imagine
That when all this began
It was really just a bluff.
But perhaps it wasn’t
Perhaps their care was sincere,
just not accurately definable as love.
Perhaps it was infatuation
Perhaps it was fluff
Perhaps it was the puppy dog nausea that grows in your stomachs
Which may normally be fine,
But when that puppy dog nausea in the stomach continues to grow into a stomach ache
When that ache starts a cascade of agony into a full blown ulcer
Bleeding from your stomachs through your heart.
That’s when things go wrong.

That’s when the hate begins
That’s when He began to care more for his fix than her.
That’s when she found safety in other men.
But what about their child?
What about their blood?
What ever happened to the love?

Another soul lost
at the cost of domestic dispute
This cute child being born into hate
Ever since her day of birth
She tried to be worth something to her mother.
But her mother wouldn’t see her.
Her mother couldn’t see her
As anything more than a mistake.
And one day when her mother asked for her to take out the trash
She respectfully replied with, “Ok, mommy, would after the commercial be alright?”
Without even knowing what kind of mess was festering,
All hell broke loose.

"You BRAT!
DISRESPECTFUL
Acting like THAT
You took my life away!
I could've been something.
I could've been something more
You should never have been born!"

Even after spouts like this
The child still found enough love to continue to believe her mother was God
“I wanna be just like mommy when I grow up
She’s so beautiful.
She’s so smart
She’s so strong.”
It’s a shame how she’ll never see how wrong she really was.
Her mother didn’t give a damn about her.

When she was alone and her father came home drunk
Her mother didn’t give a damn.
When her father breathed his alcoholic breath on an innocent child
Her mother didn’t give a damn
Her mother didn’t give a damn
Her mother was giving some man a fuck and hand job.
While her father pushed his disgusting hands all over his daughter.

“You wanted to be just like mommy, right, honey?”
He would ask.
Shaking and scared she would whisper, “yes, daddy”
“That’s what I like to hear”
And he’d start the pain.
Turning the music loud so he didn’t have to hear her scream.
The music played
As the drums beat consistency into her head
The music played
As her heart beat itself broken
The music played
As her father beat his masculinity into her virginity.
The music played
But there was silence in her soul

A tear traveled down her face like a ship lost at sea
But she couldn’t see through the blurry vision
But she couldn’t see through the lies her parents had given
She just used guilt as a guide.

All she ever wanted
Was to be loved.
But hate was above love in this household.
And I can only imagine how she’ll grow up to be
Emotionally slow
How she’ll strip show
Do blow
Pretend to swallow
Until her mind goes numb

But the future isn’t written
And there’s still time.
So Rise up my child - you're worth more than this
Rise up my child - you need more than this
Rise up my child - you're more beautiful than this
Rise up
Rise up
When there’s no music
Rise up and let your soul sing out
