I hate politics. No, really, I don't like politics at all.
But unfortunately, a 2000 graduate from my high school died in Iraq a few days ago. His family and friends are in my prayers. I feel horrible. It's just incredible that the war in Iraq seems so ....I don't know, familiar now. So close all of a sudden. I always got the feeling that our little town was so isolated from the rest of the world, so sheltered. It's weird.
My father and I just had a long discussion about the war in Iraq. I'm pretty tired, so I don't feel like going into detail about what we talked about. It was very refreshing though. Nothing shallow. It was worth my time, anytime talking to my dad is worth my time...just when it comes to Bush and the war, I try to steer clear. Especially when it comes to the government, I hate dealing with people who aren't open-minded and are set in their ways. But I guess that's politics. But, then I guess that's why I can't stand them. Maybe after tonight though, I'll be able to tolerate them a little more.
If I could recommend anything to anyone who's reading this about current "foreign affairs"...I suppose this stuff is more geared towards when things were / are going on in Afghanistan, I would recommend these two things:
the book Kite-Runner and
the movie "Kandahar"
Trust me, they are WORTH your time. And they are eye-openers. Before I was so oblivious to what was going on in the world...these are definitely necessary if you're willing to pick up some insight about what our country is dealing with along the lines of Afg. and Iraq.
