"To A Sad Daughter."
...how ironic????!!!!!...
Careful reading of "To a Sad Daughter" should make you notice a few things: he writes "One day I'll come swimming / beside your ship." What do you make of that? What does he mean by "ride / the ceremonies / until they grow dark."?
What is the "yellow suburban annunciation"?
Such a colourful poem, literally. There are many times when a colour is used in the poem. Yellow. Purple. I dont know what to make of the things we were asked to look at. I guess just that the father is sad that his daughter is growing up, or grown up, its all very vague...One day i will come swimming beside your ship, i dont know how that is significant...
i remember being confused in class when we read through this poem in groups. my group couldnt decide what was so significant about any of it...and we were told that we should be able to find something in the way the poem was written, and now, like 3 (?) weeks later, i am not closer to finding out what that is.
the only thing i can say about this poem is that i find it a bit spooky that his daughter is not in the poem at all, nothing about her really..only vague references...
hmmm.
