New York: Night One

May 13, 2006 16:09

First off, I did find Metroid Prime Hunters in Singapore in some random shop that I didn't expect to be selling DS games. The downside, it was $94 fricken' dollars! All the other shops had DS games for around %50~60 dollars! This place had games from $20 to $94 which seemed to be depending on how good the game was. Metroid Prime Hunters being a god damn awesome game was @94 dollars! I decided since I would have gladly spent up to $70 to get the game in the first place, spending an extra $20 to be able to play it on an 18 hour flight wasn't that bad. In the end I think it was worth it since the game is awesome and kept me well occupied during the flight.

Anyway, night one in New York. Go to my hotel, check in, shower, then go grab dinner. Grab a Blimpies Sub, I think Subway is better, it was alright though. Then go down to Don Hill's (which turns out to be within walking distance of where I'm staying) because The Juan Maclean and Tim Sweeney are DJing. Get there at 9:45. Catch the end of some random rock band. They were okay and they must have been somewhat famous since everyone there wanted to get a picture with the lead singer (well she was cute). Rock band crowd leaves and Tim Sweeney DJs to an empty room. It was a cool set but I didn't feel like dancing on my lonesome. Then Dave P (I think he's one of the resident DJs at Don Hills) takes the stage. Everyone starts coming in and drinking this stuff called Sparks. I decided to see what the fuss is all about. Turns out the fuss is that it's free from 11-12 and also that it tastes really nice. It is also packed with caffeine and alcohol (6%). I think it should be renamed to PARTY JUICE!!!!111 Me and the crowd down much of this stuff and the dance floor takes off towards the end of his set. Tim Sweeney comes back and rocks the place. After having two Stella's and 2 free Sparks it dawns on me that I haven't been tipping. At 11:55 I order two sparks and give a tip of "5 Dollars" the bar person says thank you for the generous tip. Later I discover that I still have many a five dollar note but am missing the $50 dollar note from my wallet. D'oh! Damn you American dollars looking all the same. Okay so they have added coloured notes ($5 = yellow $50 = pink) but it is hard to tell under crazy club lighting conditions. Don't tell this to my Mum!

Sparks fuled, I dance away to Tim Sweeney, and then to the mighty Juan Maclean himself. I guess I must have gone a bit spastic since I got asked if I had any drugs about four times. I don't think these New Yorkers are used to my mad styles. Also, Sparks is awesome! However as I type this I offer this waring. The affect of the caffeine wears off quicker than the affect of alcohol. This stuff really hits you at the end of the night.

Anyway despite my over generous tip, tonight has been awesome! I just wish I had some of you guys to share it with me. Dancing is so much better with friends.
