People in a Daphne neighborhood are expressing surprise and relief after the arrest of four people in a shooting death Friday night.
Daphne Police say 50 year old James Thomaston of Fairhope was shot in a robbery related to drugs.
Police have charged 18 year old Ersel Mitchell with capital murder in Thomaston's death.
They say Mitchell was the triggerman and was selling drugs to Thomaston.
But they've also charged 19 year old Dexter Elliott and 19 year old Byron Mosley with conspiracy to commit murder, and 20 year old Leah Gamble with hindering prosecution.
Daphne Police Captain Scott Taylor said, "We believe the shooting occurred on Lett Avenue in Daphne next to a vacant house on that property."
Police say Ersel Mitchell shot Thomaston outside the home and ran through the woods to another house about a block away."
They say that's where Mitchell got Elliott and Mosley to help him load Thomaston, who was still alive, in a pickup truck and head off to another location.
But the pickup Mitchell was driving crashed and all three fled.
Thomas Pleasant lives across the street from Mitchell.
He said, "I couldn't believe it, I didn't want to believe it. He was a nice young man, now he always treated me with respect, he always called me 'Sir.'."
Willie Brown lives next door to Mitchell.
He says, "I didn't know him, No, I seen him. They stayed there with the mom, about three years ago, the mother died then, that little house, but they weren't renting, they were just staying there."
Daphne Police are also asking for your help in finding a woman who they call a person of interest.
She's 23 year old Mary Lee Spencer of Daphne.
In addition, Daphne police also say they expect other people to be charged in the case.
